Ingredients
2SticksSoftened Butter
2tbspPoppy seeds
5tbspYellow Mustard
1Yellow or White Onion Finely Chopped
1 1/2PoundsShredded Swiss cheese
3PoundsShaved Ham
48King Hawaiian Butter Rolls
Instructions
Stir together butter, poppy seeds, yellow mustard, and chopped onion to make the mustard sauce.
In a separate bowl mix together ham and swiss. It is easiest to mix with your hands.
Remove rolls from the package. Be sure to keep the oven-safe tray the rolls come in. Keeping rolls together slice rolls in half. The rolls are moist and delicious and make this recipe super yummy and easy!
Divide mustard sauce into fourths and spread evenly onto the top side of each of the four rolls (it will be a generous amount).
Evenly divide the ham mixture between the four roll bottoms.
Wrap the rolls in their tray in heavy-duty aluminum foil.
Once wrapped, they can then be frozen or heated right away while wrapped in foil.
Now if you don’t want to heat up your house throw the foil-wrapped buns onto your grill over indirect heat. Heat them slowly for about 30 minutes. They only need to be warmed so butter and cheese melt.
They can also be baked at 350 degrees in an oven for about 30 minutes.
If you like to be outside at the lake as much as we do, warm them on a campfire lakeside….just keep them away from a direct flame. Place the foil-wrapped buns in a cast iron dutch oven. Turn the buns frequently to keep them from burning. After about 20 minutes depending on your fire the buns should be warm and gooey!
Once heated through and cheese has fully melted remove from the foil. Use a serrated knife to cut apart the sandwiches.
Notes
For large groups, figure about 1½ ham buns per person. Serve hot! What an easy way to feed a crowd!
