Good morning, Skip to My Lou-ers! I’m Sabra from Sew a Straight Line.  I am an avid sewist and share my creations, both good and bad, along with snippets from my family life, on my blog.  I’m excited to be participating in the Holiday Bake, Craft, and Sew again this year.  Today I want to share with you a super quick and easy way to add a handmade touch to any gift; sweet little bird gift-tags

These use just a scrap of fabric, some ribbon and stuffing and very little time.  They work great as gift tags, and can double as ornaments on a tree or wreath, or as place tags at the holiday table.  I love that they can give even store-bought gifts that handmade, personal touch.

You can download the PDF bird template HERE.  I originally made the template to go with a mobile for my baby’s nursery last year, so disregard the wing on the PDF.  You could also trace out cookie-cutter shapes if birds aren’t your thing, or if you want some variety.

Cut two birds out of your fabric.  I used cotton muslin.

Take a six-inch strip of ribbon and make a loop.  Pin the loop to the wrong side of one of the bird bodies.

Place the other bird body, right side up, on the first, wrong sides together, sandwiching the ribbon loop and matching edges.

Starting at the lower front side of the bird, follow the shape of the bird up and around, securing the ribbon and ending about two inches from your starting point.  Back stitch at both beginning and end.

Write your recipient’s name across the bird’s body.  Or I used some stamps and fabric-friendly ink.

Stuff the bird, through the gap at the bottom, with Poly-Fil.

Stitch the gap closed, back stitching to secure.

Super quick and easy.  Whip up a whole flock for the loved-ones on your list!
