This pattern shows just how easy it is to craft a classic symbol of jolly old St. Nick perfect for spreading merriment during the holidays.

Santa Hat Supplies

  • 3/8 yard fleece fabric
  • 1/8 yard fleece fabric with fur look
  • 1 large 3-inch pom pom
  • Santa Hat Pattern (This pattern is sized for a child. If you need it larger it can simply be enlarged.

How to make a Kids Santa Hat

Download the template and print it on white copy paper. Cut out the pattern pieces and assemble pieces according to the numbers.

Pattern for Santa Hat

Cut out the pattern on the fold of the fabric. Cut a piece of trim 22″ long. I used the entire 4.5 inches with of the 1/8 of the yard fleece.

Sew 1/4 inch seam along the edge of the folded red triangle.

The edge of the fleece trim over about a half inch and stitch. I used a very long stitch length, about 5.

Fold the trim piece right sides together and stitch along the end. Use 1/2 seam.

Turn the red hat inside out. Place the white trim inside the hat. The right side of trim will be next to the wrong side (inside) of the hat.

Stitch around the top of the hat with 1/2 inch seam.

Fold the trim to the outside and sew the pom to the hat.

You’re done! Your child can be Santa this entire holiday season.

    It’s my son’s first Christmas and I could not find a baby Santa hat ANYWHERE — and I started looking in October! — so making it myself was the only option. He’s also still in newborn size at 3 months old, so I could make it to fit his head perfectly. I know it’s a super easy pattern, but I’m terrible at drafting my own patterns for even the simplest of things, so thank you for coming to the rescue and helping me get a baby Santa hat just in time for Christmas!
