I’m Ellen from The Long Thread , where I write about all things handmade. My new book, 1,2,3 Sew from Chronicle
Books
will be available next month.

Today I’m going to show you how to make this simple drawstring pouch
for teacher gifts. These days, I’m big on practicality and not a fan
of clutter, so I often give our teachers gift certificates to
coffeehouses, grocery stores, or their favorite shops. Whether you
spend a little or a lot, it’s nice to add a personal touch to your
gift by including a handmade pouch with a big “Thank You” from your
child.

  1. I love this appreciation gift idea. I love to give gifts that I know will be used instead of being put in a closet and forgotten about because they could not use it.

  2. These bags are darling! So are the Crystal Lite containers – and I know! I taught for 35 years and never got a present from a student that I didn’t love, but home made ones touched me especially.

  3. I look forward to all of these great ideas! I manage an Adult Day Center, and I am always looking for meaningful projects for our volunteers and friends of the center! I am especially enjoying the teacher appreciation ideas! Thanks so much!

  4. THANK YOU! As a teacher I feel guilty when I get gifts I can’t use. (my christmas tree can only hold so many apple ornaments!) Teachers <3 <3 <3 gift cards! What CUTE pouches too!
