Thanks for the hint! My oldest is just about to be 5 and we have many neighborhood kids and they are just now starting to get asked to come out and play and I have no idea what the etiquette is about this. I remember doing it as a kid, but I wasn't paying attention to what the adults thought of it! Thanks!!!

I love the idea of not having to be the mean mom that turns away friends at the door when it's homework or cleaning time! I shared this idea in a round-up of great tips on my blog today. Thanks for the inspiration! http://www.positivelysplendid.com/2012/03/12-more-why-didnt-i-think-of-that-tips.html

I have been pondering a solution to the everyday visitors....thank you so much for a solution!...and so cute too (as opposed to the 'mean mom' - which I am also guilty!)

What a great idea for virtual academy and home schoolers alike. We often get knocks from the neighborhood kids when we're busy doing school work. I just assembled our very own door hanger and proudly placed it on our front door. Hopefully it will be a good indicator to the kids not to disturb us and hopefully deter a few witnesses as well. : )

This a wonderful idea!!!! I need something for solicitors. Our neighborhood is often over-run on evenings and weekends with people wanting to mow lawns, wash windows and sell magazine subscriptions. I don't mind if it's our neighborhood children selling items for school...but most of the time it is not. I want a sign that will politely tell the solicitors that we are not interested so don't ring the doorbell. Any ideas??? Love your blog!!!!

This is sweet. We have about 10-12 kids in the neighborhood, and they knock and knock and knock on the door. They don't stop at just once, they keep knocking for 10-15 minutes, Yes I have tried to ignore them before. Only to go open the door and yell at them. I am a mean mom.

I love this idea, no matter how old your kids might be-- you could hang it on the door during homework time if your kids are older vs the do not disturb during naps etc. I run a home day care and I used to put a picture of a sleeping baby on the front door when the kids were napping and I didn't want the bell to be rung or the mail man to knock loudly etc-- but this idea is great too!

Very cute. I had seen something similar (but not nearly as cute) back when my youngest child was a baby. I would try to nurse him in my room then he would drift off to sleep. Well, every time I sat down with him one of my other children would come busting through the door. I made myself a little sign (again not a very cute one). It had 3 little stick children with a big circle around them and a line through it. We I needed to be in my room alone with baby, I would tape the sign to the door. Even my 3 yr old could figure out that sign. It was a life saver!

Oh my goodness! What a lifesaver (well...a family meal time saver anyway)! I'm gonna get these right away! Now...if only all of the pesky neighborhood children (who apparently never eat meals at normal times) could read! Ha ha ha! Thanks for posting this! Great idea...I'm sharing it on Facebook for all my friends to see too!
