These Oreo Truffles are so delicious and easy to make! They would be the perfect gift for any chocolate lover. Just be prepared for people to ask for the recipe!

Oreo Truffles

Oreo Truffles also called oreo balls are delicious and easy enough for kids to get into the kitchen and help make! Only three ingredients are needed to make this edible gift.

Kids can use their own creativity by adding different flavors and decorations – to make their very own truffles! They will love decorating them and will have the recipe memorized in no time! Remember it’s not about perfection!

Don’t worry if they turn out perfectly round, or if they are dipped exactly right. This is a homemade give made with love! These oreo balls can get a little messy. If this seems stressful, try a homemade gift like hot pepper jelly, cookie dough, or homemade granola.

Here is What You Will Need To Make

  • 18 oz. package of OREO Cookies
  • 8 oz. package of Cream Cheese, softened
  • 16 oz. fine quality white candy coating, melted (white chocolate chips, or almond bark can also be used)
  • baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper
  • fork or dipping tool

How to Make Oreo Truffles

Follow the steps for how to make oreo balls and you will have a deliciously tasty treat to give away to teachers, grandparents, and neighbors!

1. Crush the entire package of Oreos in a food processor. Reserve 1/4 cup of crumbs for decorating

2. Mix in cream cheese with the finely crushed Oreo cookies. Mix well. This could also be done with a hand mixer or stand mixer.  I used my food processor for the entire recipe.

3. Roll dough mixture into 1-inch balls, putting on wax or parchment paper. A small cookie scoop makes this an easy task. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or freezer for 10 min.

While the oreo cookie balls are chilling prepare chocolate for dipping.

How to Melt Candy Coating

Melt the candy coating or chocolate slowly. This is important. Chocolate that is melted too quickly and gets too hot will become stiff and then be cloudy or have spots when it hardens.

I melt my chocolate in the microwave at 30-second intervals stirring after each. Once it starts to melt continue stirring and it will continue to melt without re-heating. If you do need a touch more heat do 15 seconds more.

Dip balls in melted chocolate, using a dipping tool or fork. Tap the fork on side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.

Sprinkle the dipped balls with fine oreo crumbs before the candy coating hardens. You can also give the tops a drizzle of candy coating in another color.

Tips

  • If you don’t have a food processor you can crush the Oreos in a large resealable plastic bag using a rolling pin. Be sure to make the crumbs fine.
  • Chill the Oreo filling before dipping, This keeps the balls from breaking bits of Oreos will into the chocolate. It also helps the chocolate harden more quickly.
  • Use regular, not Double Stuff Oreos. The Double Stuff has too much cream filling. Other flavor varieties of Oreos do work like mint, birthday cake, etc.
