Posted by  ·  March 28, 2017  ·  Last Updated: March 29, 2017

Get ready to SING! We are delighted to partner with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment to celebrate the the SING Special Edition Blu-ray and DVD release! Our family loves a movie that inspires you to reach for your dreams and this heartwarming film with great music and a fantastic cast does just that! So often we get stuck and don’t take chances. This movie is a great reminder to take a few chances and to put yourself out there. Great things can happen!

Our movie night couldn’t be complete with yummy treats and of course themed food! What better way to encourage some singing than microphone cupcakes! The best part they are super easy to make!

How to make microphone cupcakes

Mix up one boxed cake mix according to package directions.  Place ice cream cones into a muffin pan.  Fill each cone with the cake batter.  Leave at least an inch of space at the top.

Bake according to package directions for cupcakes.  Watch closely. We used the jumbo ice cream cones so they took a few minutes extra to bake.

DIY microphone cupcakes

Decorate the cupcakes with white frosting, licorice and sparkly silver coarse sugar.

First make a hole near the bottom of the cone with a sharp tool. An ice pick or meat fork works great.  This makes a place to slip in the “cord.”

Peel the licorice into individual cords and feed one piece into the hole.

Frost the cupcakes with the white frosting. Be generous making the tops look like the top of a microphone.

How many did these make? 24 or 12? Do you need to add more batter to fill the cones than you would a cupcake liner? Thank you!

Nina, I don't remember now. I know it made 12 and I think a few more. It didn't take too much more for the cones. If you fill too high they overflow. I would say you could probably get 18. Sorry I should have counted.
