Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week in May. Through all of April I am excited to share some amazing ideas from some of the most wonderful bloggers for my Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas series! It’s a great month! You will be totally prepared with ideas to thank your teachers!

I am so excited to be here today at Skip to My Lou! I just love Cindy! She is an amazing person and mother in real life and is one of those women that I look up to. So of course, I was honored to be a part of her Teacher Gift Series. My name is Amy and you can always find me at The Idea Room. Today I am sharing how to make this simple Chalkboard Flower Pot.

I purchased a really inexpensive clay flower pot. You can find these almost anywhere. I just picked mine up at the local nursery where I also picked up this sweet Gerber Daisy. Then you are going to paint your pot. I used a Chalkboard Spray Paint from Rustoleum. It works so great and is so easy to use. Just tape off the area of the pot you do not want painted with the chalkboard spray paint. I used painter’s tape and some newspaper. Once you have it all taped off and sealed spray that baby! One or two coats works just fine and then let it dry.

After the paint has dried, if you want to add another color like gold…tape off the chalkboard painted area and cover with newspaper so that the gold spray paint does not get on it. Then spray on some fun color! I chose to do the rim of mine gold. Let it dry and remove the tape.

Then plant your flower into the pot and add this cute little teacher tag. I simply printed it out and glued it onto some black card stock. Then to get it to stand in the plant, I taped it to a wooden craft toothpick. This seriously does not get any easier. Then write the teacher’s name on the pot or an inspirational word!

I also like to give our teachers a little gift card so they can use it for a night out to dinner or a movie. I figure they deserve a nice treat after all their hard work for the year. Good teachers are irreplaceable!
