What is a freezer meal?

Freezer meals or Freezer Bags for Slow Cookers – sometimes called ‘dump bags’ because you take the contents and “dump them in a slow cooker” are meals you make and prep ahead of time and freeze them.  I usually make a shopping list and plan ahead beforehand. You simply spend the bulk of time creating meals on one day and then freeze them. Using a good grocery list you will have all the ingredients to be successful in one day. Then using the recipes you put together each meal in a freezer bag, ready for the crockpot. It is good to choose a variety of crockpot recipes. That’s it, with some planning you will have a bunch of slow cooker freezer meals. I like to use them for my weeknight dinners.

How long will freezer meals last?

Freezer meals usually last three months. I usually thaw my meals in the fridge the night before. After you thaw for these recipes, you simply take the contents and dump them into the crockpot.  After that, you will have the easiest slow cooker meal.  Cooking times will vary.

Here are a few benefits to using freezer meals.

  • They don’t need any cooking ahead of time so they are easy to prepare and make.
  • They cook for the first time out of the freezer and don’t taste like leftovers.
  • You can take advantage of sales at the grocery store buying ingredients in bulk when things are on sale.

To Make Freezer Meals you will need:

  • Crockpot, slow cooker, or instant pot
  • Ziplock Freezer bags
  • Sharpie Pen for labeling
  • Baggie holders (makes filling bags so much easier)
