How to Make Baked Ziti

You can easily turn out this baked ziti recipe from prep time to serving in around an hour. Let’s see how it is done.

Step 1: Start by frying your onions and ground beef in a pan, and sprinkle salt too. Stir over medium heat until the onions are soft, and the beef is cooked. At the same time, on medium-high heat, boil a large pot of salted water and add your ziti pasta. Cooking times vary for pasta depending on the heat, pot, and other factors, but you want it al dente. Drain when done.

Step 2: Add your spaghetti sauce, stir thoroughly, and allow it to simmer.

Step 3: Coat the bottom of your baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and pour a layer of meat sauce, not too much, you need more for later. For the next layer, add the ziti pasta, followed by disks of provolone cheese. Top each disk with a dollop of sour cream and spread over the cheese.

Step 4: Add the remaining sauce as the next layer, and top that with the remaining ziti pasta. The final two layers are mozzarella cheese, followed by a sprinkling of parmesan cheese (use as much or as little as you’d like).

Mozzarella and parmesan are added to top the dish before it goes in the overn.

Step 5: Bake in a pre-heated oven until all the cheese has melted.

Step 6: Serve this delicous dish with some garlic bread. Everyone will love it.

Look how goey and stringy that cheese it. Baked ziti is the perfect comfort food.

If there are any leftovers (and I doubt there will be), you can store them in your fridge in an airtight container for a few days.

Substitutions or Additions

This baked ziti is one that you can play around with, so consider changing things up.

For example, instead of sour cream, place some ricotta cheese on top of the provolone to create the ultimate cheese mixture.

You could substitute the ziti pasta with rigatoni or penne too, if you prefer those, or use a marinara sauce instead of a spagetthi sauce.

To really make the dish a little more decadent, add some Italian sausage to your ground beef, or you could even substitute that with ground turkey.

For some heat, add a few red pepper flakes when frying off your onions and ground beef.

If you’d prefer a vegetarian baked ziti, use your favorite meat substitute.

Finally, for even more Italian flavor, top your final dish with some finely cut fresh basil.
