Hi everyone!
I’m Allison and I blog over at A Glimpse Inside. I am thrilled to be here at Skip to my Lou today!
My oldest is only 2, and JUST turned 2 at that, so she is just now starting to get to the age of doing fun activities and I wanted to gear my summer activity towards those of you with young kiddos like her but kiddos of all ages will enjoy it.
Today, I am sharing a recipe to make your very own 3D Chalk!
It is super fun and so easy to make!
Homemade 3D Chalk--so easy to make!
Here is how you can make some for your kids to enjoy.
Only a few ingredients to make your own 3D Chalk!
Supplies:
 -1/2 cup of Cornstarch
-2 tablespoons of Four
-1/4 cup of water
-Food coloring
-Baggies or bottles
3D Chalk
Begin by placing the 1/2 cup of Cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of flour into a bowl and mix with a fork.

Then place about 6 drops of food coloring into the cornstarch/flour mixture along with the 1/4 cup of water.
Mix well together until a thick paste is formed. If your mixture is very dry, slowly add a little water until the mixture is like thick paste.
3D chalk- so fun!!
Pour your mixtures into a baggie for older kids or squeeze bottles for younger kids.
I cleaned out some old acrylic paint bottle and put the chalk inside. Worked much better for Miss P than teaching her how to hold and squeeze the baggie.
If using the baggie, just cut the tip of one of the corners off to use. You could even place in a frosting bag and use frosting tips for you kids to get real creative with!
This 3D chalk recipe is so cool!
Then head outside and have fun!
3D Chalk
You can make all sorts of fun designs and even layer the colors on top of each other.

Or just let your small kiddos be little Modern Art artists.

You can even let the chalk dry for a few minutes and then pick it up!
It is almost like silly putty so you can make balls with it and combine the colors before it fully dries.
To clean up, just rinse off with water.
And don’t worry if it gets all over your child’s clothes! It just wipes right off and if any color is left behind, it will come out in the wash.
Make some 3D chalk using basic household items. SO FUN!
I hope you make some this summer for your kids to enjoy!
It really is loads of fun!

  1. Hey Susi!
I actually made one of the colors a little too thin as well and I just let it sit for a few minutes before I used it and it thickened up. You could also add a SMALL amount of flour to it to thicken it as well but I would let it just sit and it should thicken.

  2. Hi Allison. Just tried making some, got it too thick to go in a bottle, thinned it, now I can get it in the bottle, it’s just not very thick when I squeeze it out. Any suggestions?

I did follow your recipe, right ingredients, amounts, etc. When it’s thick, it is a fun substance to “play” with, but is a little sticky to my hands. When it’s thicker, it is Very difficult to get in my bottle (a clear plastic bottle, found in the baking section at Walmart, probably for icing.)

Thanks for any extra info you share.

  3. I am no longer raising children, but I am a mom, grandma, and a great grandma of 13, soon to be 14.
My husband and I started life as the two of us, had two children, which gave us 5 grandchildren, which in return has given me, (my husband has passed) 14 great grands.

I said all of that to say I have shared your ideas with my family and have used a few for when my family visits. I think you have wonderful creative ideas which can keep a child busy and learning at the same time.

God Bless you and your husband tell him I said thank you for his service, and yours. I have a grandson and his family which also is serving in the militaryI know at times it can be stressful.
