Introducing Kyla with Funky Polka Dot Giraffe sharing a gift for the book lover on your list!
Hello there Skip to My Lou, friends! My name is Kyla and I’m the creative mind behind  Funky PolkaDot Giraffe! I’m a 2nd grade teacher turned stay-at-home mom and these days I keep busy creating for my blog, juggling my three kids, and reading a favorite book when I can steal a moment between being a full time taxi for my kids. Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I love to get lost in a story and leave the real world behind for an hour or so. Then, when it’s time to come back to reality and feed the kids, I really love to use a cute bookmark to keep my place. If you have a book lover like myself in your life, then you need to make them a ruffled bookmark!

Supplies for Book Lover’s Ruffled Bookmark

  •  2.5″x9″ piece of cotton fabric
  • 2.5″x18″ piece of cotton fabric
  • 2.5″x9″ piece of felt
  • 6″ piece of ribbon

How to make a ruffled bookmark

1. Take the 2.5″x 18″ piece of fabric, find the center. Set your tension high. Set your stitch length long. Sew right down the middle.

2. Layer your piece of felt on top of your 2.5″x9″ piece of fabric.Ruffled Bookmark 01

3. Layer your ruffled piece of fabric on top of the felt, creating a fabric sandwich.

4. Fold your piece of ribbon into a “V” and pin in between the felt and the non-ruffled piece of fabric.

5. You can pin the rest of bookmark, or you can sew by the seat of your pants. I choose to sew by the seat of my pants, so I can adjust the ruffles as I go. I used a 1/4″ seam allowance. You can use a larger seam allowance if you wanted to be able to pink the edges. I happen to like the frayed/funky look, so I didn’t pink the edges. I also sewed back and forth over the ribbon 2-3 times to make it secure.Ruffled Bookmark 05

6. Grab your seam ripper. And carefully remove the ruffle stitch from the middle. TIP: If you have itty bitty holes from your ruffle stitch, lightly spray the fabric with water and let it air dry. VOILA! Teensy holes are gone.Ruffled Bookmark 11

Now you’ve got an adorable ruffled bookmark for the book lover in your life. It’s a quick and easy gift that is also a scrap buster if you have loads of scraps hanging around like I do. This is suck a quick little project that you can make one for yourself if you’re a book lover too!
