…..and a new phone.  For the next three months I will be trying out a new Windows Phone!

So meet my new phone, the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone.

One thing I love about a smart phone are the apps that can make my life easier, keep me organized and entertain my children. This new Windows Phone has many of its own signature apps.

Call me weather girl with this cool app

Baby it’s hot outside. We just experienced 10 days of triple digit weather! After a brief cool down we are ready for another slow and steady warm up.  Our weather is unpredictable so it is great that I can always have a weather update right at my finger tips with Weather Flow on my phone. This app has rich graphics that move with the weather, really pretty (even when the weather is not)!

Until our weather improves I will be turning lemons into lemonade and keeping cool with this fun recipe and checking my phone daily for a possible cool down!

Watermelon Lemonade

2 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (strained)
2 generous cups of cubed watermelon (seeds removed)
2 cups cold water or sparkling water
Ice

In a medium saucepan, bring the water and sugar to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves, remove from heat and cool. Meanwhile, puree watermelon in the blender and strain to remove any seeds. You should have about 1 cup watermelon juice.  Add the lemon juice, watermelon puree and  to the simple syrup (sugar water) chill. Stir in two cups water, serve over ice.

Rather cool off with a cocktail?

Guess What? There is an app for that too!  Cocktail Flow is full of recipes and shopping lists for alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails. I love this app! Don’t miss the recipe for the Strawberry Martini.

How do you stay cool?

What are your favorite summer drinks and cocktails? Please feel free to leave recipes in the comments so we all can try!

Microsoft gave me the Windows Phone and compensation for this test drive.

  1. love watermelon anything, especially drinks, thanks for sharing and have fun with the phone—can’t say i know anyone with the windows phone. GL!

  2. Lazyman’s margarita:

BudLight Lime-a-rita poured over crushed ice. Serve in a salt rimmed glass and garnished with a lime.

Not too bad for a quick drink!

  3. We ALWAYS love a summer beer here at our house.
    Summer Beer:
48 oz. of beer (a light beer like Corona)
    12 oz. of lemonade concentrate
6 to 12 oz. citrus flavored vodka (like 3 Olives/lemonlime vodka)
Mix it up and serve over ice! Garnish with a lime
(Best with a group of friends!)

  4. I’ve never used watermelon for drinks before, but it’s something I really want to try out this summer!

  5. Here’s a recipe for an “amped up” Arnold Palmer:

    3oz. lemonade
    3oz. iced tea
    2oz. sweet tea vodka

Serve over ice with fresh lemon wedge and fresh mint

    ENJOY!

  6. I love a lot of different apps but I would say my favorite is instagram. I love what you can do with editing and sharing photos with friends. Have fun playing with your new phone:)

  7. I need to make that! And I didn’t know I could change the colors of my tiles!

  8. My RSS reader app on my phone is my lifeline. My current favorite is MobileRSS, but I’m always on the lookout for something new. If your Reader is anything like mine, it gets out of control– and this app helps me “read” the blogs I love, share easily and move on to the next one. Think of it like your Twitter app, but with easy access to the full blog, instead of leaving Twitter to see it. Priceless.

And I have an authentic margarita recipe that’s low in calories but high in delicious flavor. You’ll have to work for it, though.

    Mallie’s Margaritas:
    3 parts fresh OJ
    1 part fresh lime juice
    Jigger of triple sec
    Shot of Tequila

Mix well in tumbler of ice. I make a pitcher of it at a time and take it to the pool/lake with me. The sugar content is pretty low, so you don’t feel that woozy sugar rush in the sun! In a pinch, store bought OJ and Roses’ Lime work–but the flavor isn’t there until you add the real stuff. Enjoy!

  9. I love Bellinis! Here is an easy one: 2 oz. pureed peaches and 6 oz. of champagne. Yum!

  10. That recipe sounds so delicious!

We have a favorite easy peasy recipe.

We call it delicious. COKE floats. Coke, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream from a can. My kids go wild for it. I suppose it cools them down. And then hypes them up…..:)
