My kids and I made these sour cream container look alikes for Valentine’s Day. This simple design allows for lots of creativity. We used white cardstock that we stamped with hearts, but colored papers, paper with your writing and drawings, or other decorative papers or materials (wallpaper, etc.) could be used.

How to Make Sour Cream Containers

We started with half of a sheet of cardstock. We then stamped hearts on the paper.

Cotainer step 1: Stamp hearts onto a half sheet of cardstock.

Put double-sided tape down the short side of the paper. Then roll the paper up to make a tube.

Container step 2: Apply a piece of double-sided tape on one of the short ends of the cardstock.
Container step 3: Roll the cardstock into a tube with the print side facing out and press the ends together.

Gently squeeze the tube on one end. Place a piece of double-sided tape at the end on the inside so when you squeeze the end all the way shut it will stick. Squeeze the end shut. Take a paper crimper (This thing is a HUGE hit with my kids—well worth the bucks!) and crimp the end closed. We crimp enough into the container that we have 4 or 5 crimping lines.

Container step 4: Apply a piece of double-sided tape to the inside of one end of the container, gently press that end together and crimp.
Container with one end crimped.

Fill the container with treats and or some trinkets. Now gently squeeze the other end in the OPPOSITE direction. Put tape along the inside at the end and then crimp shut. The crimping makes it look just like a sour cream container.

Container step 6: Fill the container with treats or trinkets, apply a piece of double-sided tape to the open end, press tube closed and crimp.
Sealed Valentines treat or trinket container - it looks like a sour cream container.

  1. What a great idea! I have a crimper, so I will be doing this for my grand children this year. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.

  2. You can pick up the crimper at virtually any craft store. Michael’s, Jo-Ann’s, and Hobby Lobby should all have it. I hope to make these for my students tonight! 🙂

  3. i cant realy make that because i dont have a paper crimpler thingy-majig

    ;D

  4. Okay thanks! Now a trip to Hobby Lobby is in order to get one of those paper crimpers! I always get in trouble on this site. haha

  5. Genius! This is such a simple yet genius idea that I would have never though of it! I was looking for a DIY countdown calendar that could hold stuff. KF has a cute one, but it’s not something I plan on using every year & it’s expensive. I have a Cricut & envelope templates, but I just didn’t see anything of them being what I wanted & it would take forever to put them together after cutting. These are super quick to make, just cut squares with a paper cutter, tape & crimp. I made an empty one for practice & my toddler is carrying it around the house for the last hour. I may put them on a string or stick them on a decorated foam board, depends on how fast I can get it done & ship it out to my cousin! I am excited to see how it works out. I bought a crimper just for this & just love it, I love to add dimension to my scrapbook pages so it will come in handy – you gave me a reason to buy one! 🙂 Thanks for sharing, I like your website 🙂

  6. These are so incredibly great!! Now I just have to wait until the movers deliver our stuff… Maybe it will be arrive quickly instead of the 4 to 6 weeks that is projected! 🙂
