Hello Skip to My Lou readers! I’m Jane, and I’m a mother to two sweet girls aged 7 and 4, a teacher, and an endorser of playtime! I blog over at Mama Pea Pod about simple ideas for growing creative kids through playing, creating, and getting outdoors – oh, and I throw some pretty ‘funtastic’ kids’ parties, too! These simple and colorful DIY sun-catchers made out of materials from the recycling bin look just gorgeous hanging in a sunny window indoors or outdoors on the porch.
We used plastic from an empty package of frozen mini quiches, but any plastic container with individual ‘cup’ sections would work just as well.
First, cut out the circular bottoms from the ‘cups’ of the plastic packaging.
Then draw colorful designs on them with permanent markers.
Next, poke a hole in each circle with a needle or hole punch and string onto some fishing line. Tie a knot onto each one to keep them from sliding together when you hang them.
And finally, hang up where the sun can shine through them! The pictures really don’t do them enough justice – they are beeeeautiful!
What other crafts can I make with recycled items?
Recycling materials help keep trash out of landfills and give them a second purpose for fun or for function. After you have made this boat craft be sure to try one of these crafts.
Thanks for having us over, Cindy! I’m loving this series!
