Pom Pom bracelet for kids

I’m so excited to be sharing my Pom Pom Bracelets here today! This is a fun craft to do with kids – younger children can help pick colors and tie knots, older children can make these bracelets themselves! To get started, you’ll need:

Two colors of yarn
A can (coffee can or a soda can for smaller wrists)
Scissors
Tape (optional)

supplies for pom pom bracelet

Choose one color to be the main color. I chose red. That makes white my base color. Cut a piece of the base color, and tie around the coffee can. Secure with a double knot.

tie string around the can

Cut 6-8 pieces of your main color, each about 6″ long. Tie them along your base string, starting about 2″ from your knot, each about 1″ apart. Don’t worry if they don’t go all the way around the can.

Then wrap your main color yarn around the can, over your base color, 25-30 times. The more times you wrap, the fuller your pom poms will be. For younger children, you may want to tape the ties out of the way before this step, to make it easier.

Tie down your strings, as TIGHT as you can. This is what secures your pom pom, so you want to make these knots as tight as possible! Make a good, strong, double knot.

tie off the areas

Cut all of the main color strings, halfway between each knot. Make sure to NOT cut your base color (white on my bracelet). That’s why we made it a different color – to make it easy to tell which one not to cut. Cut the strings you tied with as well.

cut the yarn

Once you have all your pom poms cut, cut the base string to cut the bracelet off the can. If you used a soda can, you can slip the bracelet right off the can and wear it. For larger cans, cut the base string to the right length for your wrist.

Fluff up your pom poms, and trim any long pieces, if you like. Then tie the two ends of the base string together, and you have a cute pom pom bracelet!
