My family loves anything to do with pipe cleaners.

The kids will take a pipe cleaner and make bracelets, little charms, and even animals.  Sometimes the pipe cleaner looks like a blob to me, but to them, it’s something absolutely wonderful.  To spark a little imaginative play, I took a few minutes to make quick pipe cleaner crowns for both of my children and I watched as they transformed into knights and princesses.  It’s amazing how a little craft can turn into something that is so much fun!

I think my favorite part about this project was that it took me minutes to assemble.

This is a perfect craft that not only looks cute, but can inspire play all day long!

What You Need to Make 1 Pipe Cleaner Crown

2 Pipe Cleaners for the points

+ 2 Pipe Cleaners for the base

+ 2 different colored Pipe Cleaners to wrap around the entire base

= 6 Pipe Cleaners for one crown

You can watch the video below to see how to make the crowns.

How to Make Pipe Cleaner Crowns

First, you’ll make the peaks from 2 of the pipe cleaners.  I bent the pipe cleaners up and down over and over and then stretched them out a little bit to see those nice triangles.

Then, you’ll attach the next two pipe cleaners as the base of the crown.

Connect the pipe cleaner base to the end of the triangular pipe cleaners that you just stretched out slightly.  Wrap the base around each point that is “down.”

So, you’ll see one point that is point upwards, don’t attach the base to that point, but attach it to the next point that is downwards.  This will make the triangular point for the crown shape.  Skip the up, wrap the down, skip the up, wrap the down, and so on…this will take two pipe cleaners to complete.

Then, take your last two pipe cleaners and wrap them around the base.  Put them through the triangle, then wrap the same “downward” point that you wrapped in the previous step.  Then, put it through the next triangle and wrap the “downward” point again.

You are twisting these last two pipe cleaners around the crown to make a solid base for your child’s head.

If it’s confusing, watch the video above and re-read the tutorial!
