    Oh Boy!

    Posted by  ·  February 12, 2008

Here is our solution for Valentines for a boy that couldn’t decide whether Valentines are still “cool” to pass out. (He is in the fifth grade)

This boy’s indecision pushed us into a last minute project last night that I am still trying to finish today.

So if you find yourself in the same spot you can download the COOL Whirly Gig. We used card-stock, but they worked on thinner paper also.  My son finally getting into the fun decided we should punch a hole in the bottom and tie on a piece of candy (YIKES)!

Cut on all solid lines and fold on the dotted lines.

Fold up bottom flap and if you are not tying on candy you can fasten with a paper clip (wish I had a cool shaped one) , staple or cute heart brad.  Since the party is an hour away I think I might just hot glue that candy on the bottom!

Toss up into the air and it will twirl to the ground!  I hope you enjoy!  I am off to the Valentine’s Day party.

From one crafter to another...These are just wonderful. Sites like yours have helped classroom craft Moms get some of the most remembered memories these kids will ever have. I loved doing crafts with my sons classmates. Even now that my son is in college, his old school friends tell me there Mothers still take out the projects we did every year during Holidays. That's special. Even the teachers still bring them out in there classrooms after I leave them with the demo project. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much, I did this project with my Son's First grade class room and they loved it. I took your advice and bought fun colored paper clips, I printed the templet out on V-Day colored construction paper. Big hit thank you for helping me get a "cool mom" thumbs up from my 6 year old.

My 4 year old son and I made these for his class and they absolutely LOVED them. We used a tiny closepin with a heart glued on it for the bottom and they are so cute. It adds just enough weight to make them fly really well. Thanks so much for the totally cute idea!!! :)

Thanks so much for this idea! I printed them off and added my son's name for his Valentine's this year. He and his brother are in love with these Whirly Gigs! They can't get enough of them. Thanks so much!

These were cute and easy, very nice of you to share it. I ran out of colored paper to send through the printer, so some of these we hand colored on white with a rainbow effect, they were adorable, I can see you could further embellish with glitter, etc., if so inclined. I was in a rush and was very grateful to find your speedy pdf. Happy Vday!

Love the plastic jewels, great idea. The cheesecakes look so yummy, I will have to try them.

Thanks for sharing such useful info.

Thanks for the awesome valentines! My son (also in grade 5...that's how they call it in Canada) loved these. And my daughter in grade 3 did the flowers. You really saved us a lot of work. They hate giving store bought cards (yeah!) and enjoyed making these. Go handmade!

I know where you are coming from. I also have a 5th grade boy, who thinks he's far too cool to participate in such silly things. Until at the last minute he realized that all of the other kids in his class were, so he decided he could give it one more year. I love your valentines! Thanks for sharing too, I may just use these next year.
