Please Welcome Kim from Today’s Creative blogs, sharing a fabulous recipe!

I’m thrilled to be a guest post on Skip To My Lou and share one of our favorite fall recipes. Nothing says fall like homemade Crockpot Apple Butter! I’ve got the most delicious recipe! I have a couple of apple trees that are loaded with apples, so I am always looking for ways to use up my apples.

What is Apple Butter?

I’m learning that not everyone grew up with Apple Butter. My husband didn’t even know what it was. You may also be asking “What IS apple butter?”

It’s basically just like making applesauce, except you let it cook down longer to a thicker substance, so it’s spreadable. I use a lot of the same ingredients in my apple butter recipe as I do for applesauce. We use apple butter on pancakes, toast, and ice cream. Simple to make, delicious to eat! That’s how I like it.

We usually eat it up right away, so there’s no need to can or freeze it.

Crock Pot Apple Butter Recipe

  • Apples- enough to fill your slow cooker 3/4 up (I used about 6 medium apples)
  • 2 1/2 – 3 cups Sugar – or 1 cup honey
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 cloves (not whole)
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 to 3/4 Cup water

After peeling, coring and slicing your apples, fill your crockpot until it’s 3/4 full. Add all the rest of your ingredients and stir until well blended. Cover and cook on LOW overnight. I cooked mine for about 24 hours, taking the lid off for the last few hours to help thicken. Store in the refrigerator up to 6 weeks, or freeze for longer storage. Apple Butter makes the perfect hostess gift or holiday gift. I used up a few fabric scraps and applied apple butter labels. You can download your own labels by visiting Today’s Creative Blog.
