My daughter is really into writing letters. She wants to write all by herself and told me that I could just say each letter and then she would be able to write her own thank yous. Well... I worried that process might take a very LONG time so I came up with this...

I found this great font called Quicksand. It can be downloaded for free here.

I printed two thank yous on a page. On the inside she dictated what she wanted to say and I printed the cards again with the messages on the inside and then cut the cards in half and folded.

I am seeing these treats in so many stores and all over the web that I had to give them a try myself.

First I sprayed my heart pan with cooking spray. Really, no need for a special pan --- a heart cookie cutter would work great!

Make the traditional rice krispies treat mixture. You know this one:

Rice Krispies Treats

3 tablespoons butter

40 large marshmallows

6 cups Rice Krispies (puffed rice cereal)

Melt butter in a large saucepan. Stir in marshmallows and heat until melted, add in rice krispies.

Instructions:

Wet or oil hands and press mixture into heart shaped pan. If using a cookie cutter, spread mixture in a 9X13 pan and then cut out shapes.

Turn pan over and tap hearts out of pan.

Insert a cookie stick into the heart. Slightly re-shape heart if needed.

Melt white chocolate or almond bark in a shallow dish. Dip top of heart in the melted chocolate.

It can also be spooned on the heart and smoothed with the back of the spoon.

Before chocolate hardens, sprinkle with decorations.

Once coating is completely hard, cover with a clear plastic bag (I trimmed the length) and tie with a ribbon.

And you have a sweet treat!

Notes:

Color the rice krispie mixture by adding food coloring when melting the butter and marshmallows.

If you don't want to add chocolate or candy coating to the tops, try mixing heart shaped sprinkles into the rice krispie mixture.

With below freezing temperatures for the last two weeks we have been drinking a lot of this...

no, I mean a LOT!

The containers are nice and it seemed a bit of a waste to throw them away --- so, to make something good out of our bad habit we re-purposed them.

With only spray adhesive and wrapping paper they become great gift containers.

Remove the label. These cans have a label that is only attached with one skinny line of glue dots where the paper overlaps in the back. If you like the simple look of the cardboard canister, a vertical label or decoration would be all you need to cover the glue.

To cover the can, cut a strip of wrapping paper the height of the container (between the metal top and bottom) and long enough to overlap about an inch when wrapped around the container. Spray adhesive on the back of the paper and wrap around the container. If you don't have spray adhesive, no worries--- a glue stick would also work.

Now, I will make some cute heart labels, fill the containers with peppermint popcorn or heart shaped sugar cookies and we have a perfect little Valentine's Day gift!

Actually these would be great for any holiday or occasion!

Notes: I had wanted to use scrapbooking paper but it just wasn't quite wide enough for these cans. This is a great project to use up those last strips of wrapping paper that aren't quite wide enough to wrap a gift.

I have been looking for something soothing to put in my daughter's bath to help with her extremely dry skin--- besides olive oil (which makes her very slippery ). So in honor of Bubble Bath day we decided to whip up our own bubble bath.

If you don't want to make your own bubble bath it is at least a good reason to enjoy a nice relaxing bath!

Please read note about this project at the bottom of the post.

Homemade Bubble Bath

3 oz glycerin

1 - 4 oz bar of castile soap

4 cups distilled water

skin safe 100% pure essential oil (we used about 10 drops of lavender)

The ingredients call all be found at a grocery store. The glycerin was in the pharmacy/health and beauty section near the band aids. The essential oil was in the health food section. Make sure the essential oil is 100% pure and safe for the skin.

Grate or finely chop the bar of castile soap.

Make sure it is finely chopped, it will make it easier to dissolve in the water.

Mix the chopped soap, 3 ounces glycerin and about 6 or more drops of essential oil into 4 cups distilled water. I didn't have distilled water so I boiled four cups of water. I allowed the water to cool slightly. I think the warm water helped the soap to dissolve.

Pour the bubble bath into a container. We put some of it in this container my daughter found at Hobby Lobby. They are made for sand art. The bubble bath is now too thick for this container--- but wouldn't have made cute favors? They have loads of different shapes, even a rocket.

The verdict, no bubbles. We used about a half a cup in the bath. It made a milky looking bath. As long as it helps my daughter's skin and keeps her from complaining it is a success. But it is not a winner for bubbles.

HELP - Later in the day the bubble bath was a really thick mixture, like thick pudding. I re-made the bubble bath with distilled water to see if the hot water had changed the structure of the mixture --- same results.

Does anybody know what I did wrong?

If you have a recipe for a moisturizing bubble bath for very sensitive skin please share in the comments!

I am off to drown my disappointment in a warm bath!
