It only takes a few minutes and a few supplies to make a simple flower crochet clip. I used thin cotton crochet thread, a size 7 needle for the smaller flowers and a size 0/325mm for the larger, a hair clip, buttons (optional) and hot glue or needle and thread.

Crochet Flower Pattern

Chain 4, slip stitch in first stitch to make a ring. Working in ring, chain 2, dc, chain 2, slip stitch, makes one petal. Repeat until you have 5 petals.

Hot glue or sew button to center of flower if you like. Hot glue flower to hair clip and you are done.

I am excited to be offering 30 days of fun crafts to keep kids active and entertained this summer! You won’t want to miss a day of these fun crafts for kids from some amazing bloggers! Please be sure to pay them a visit!

Lolli from Better in Bulk writes…….

Easy Crocheted Flower Headbands

One of my kids’ favorite things to do (Summer-time or otherwise) is to crochet long chains. When kids’ hands are little, it’s tough for them to do regular crochet stitches, but crocheted chains are perfect for all sizes. I’ve looked for projects that my kids can do with the crocheted chain, since they love it so much.

I love this simple headband because it’s something that my kids and I can make together. I crochet the flower, and my 8 year old makes the chain. Then, when my little girl wears her headband out, she can say that she helped make it (and her friends will be impressed!). My older daughters can make the flowers easily on their own. My 12 year old gets orders from friends all the time! Not only are these quick, but they hardly take up any yarn, so they are cheap….or a great way to use up the ends of your yarn from other crafts.

Even a beginner crocheter can make this headband, but helps to have a basic crochet background. For this craft, the following terms are used (click each term for a quick you tube instructional video):

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch

Quick and Easy Flower Headbands

Supplies:

Size G crochet hook (using a smaller or larger hook will simply make a tighter or looser stitch)

Small amount of yarn (I used a medium, 4-ply cotton Sugar ‘n Cream yarn in Robin’s Egg blue)

Scissors

Button

Embroidery needle

Round 1:
Leave a long tail before you begin your chain.
Chain 4, join with a slip stitch to the beginning ch to form a ring.
Ch 1, then 10 sc inside ring. Join with sl st to first sc. Pull tight to close ring slightly.

Round 2:
Ch 2, 2 dc in next sc, ch 2, sl st in next sc (forms one petal).
Repeat this until you have formed 5 petals (you should have come back around to the beginning petal).
Join with sl st to first sc.

Headband:
Sl st into the body of the flower (back side).
Chain until you have reached the desired length for your headband (headband chain should be snug when wrapped around the head).
Join chain to the body of the flower on the opposite side, making sure that the chain is not twisted.
Finish off.

Optional button:
With a large embroidery needle, use the tail from the beginning chain to sew a button onto the center of the flower.
Weave in ends of yarn on the back side of the flower.

That’s it!

How to make a silk flower clip

Supplies: metal clips, 1 large silk flower, plastic gem (or covered button) for center embellishment, hot glue

Remove the plastic piece that holds the flower together from the center of the flower.

Then you will have a stack of petals.

Glue petals back together with a drop of hot glue between each layer.

I used a US size D crochet hook. I did have to increase the diameter on the last two rows to 15 stitches. I did this by adding SC two times in every other stitch. My chain for the necklace was about 125 stitches.

Now our acorns have a special home. Be sure to get extra acorns because it is a bit of a crisis if one falls out!

Just a heavy piece of cardboard, some scraps of yard, a crochet hook and glue provided some fun today!

I crocheted some chains in different lengths (actually the girls told me what color and how long). If they were older it would have been fun to have them crochet their own chains.

They put glue on the cardboard.

Then they expertly arranged the crochet chains on the glue.

Ta Da!

I think this activity would be great for older (Kate and Bella are 4 1/2) children too! It would be easier for older children to fill in the whole space and it would also provide a fun way for them to practice crochet skills.

They work together quickly!

You will find the basic heart pattern at Suzie’s Stuff among many other great patterns.

Use size J crochet hook and worsted weight yarn.

Heart

Round 1

Chain 4. Make all of the next stitches in the first chain. 3 trc, 3 dc, chain 1, 1 trc, chain 1, 3 dc, 3 trc, chain 2 slip stitch

Round 2

Chain 3, in first trc make sc and hdc, in next stitch 3 hdc, in next stitch 2 hdc, sc in next four stitches, chain 1 dc in trc, chain 1, sc in next four stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch, 3 hdc in next stitch, hdc and sc in next stitch, chain 3 and slip stitch in center

Round 3

Chain 3 , sc in top of chain 3 from previous row , sc in each stitch all the way around (until chain 3 from previous row). I chained one at the tip of the heart to get around the point easier. At beginning of chain 3 from previous row chain three and slip stitch in center of heart. Pull the loop to the back and fasten off.

Inspired Crochet Designs wrote me and said that if you make the following changes on Round 3 it will keep the top of the heart from curling.

Round 3

Chain 3, sc in top of chain 3 from previous row , 2 sc in next stitch, sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch, then sc in each of the next stitches until point of heart, chain one for point, sc in next five stitches, then sc in next st, 2 sc in next stitch, sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next stitch, chain three and then slip stitch in center of heart. Pull the loop to the back and fasten off.

Garland

Chain 45, in top of heart sc, chain 6, sc in top of other side of the heart, chain 12, sc in top of heart, chain 6, sc in top of other side of the heart, chain 12. Repeat until all hearts are joined, chain 45 fasten off.

Let me know how it goes!

If your little girl needs a bit o’ green tomorrow it is not too late to make this little hair clip. It is based on this crochet pattern by Suzie—-so I am hoping it works for you if you give it a go. It only takes a few minutes.

I used a size 4 crochet needle and embroidery floss (all 6 threads).

Chain 6, dc in 2nd chain from hook and then slip-stitch in remaining 4 chains (this makes the stem), chain 3 and join with a slip-stitch in the 3rd chain from hook to form a ring. For petal *chain 3 turn (only turn the first time), trc , dc , trc , chain 3 and slip-stitch in ring*. Repeat between * two more times so you have 3 petals. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Sew your lucky shamrock to a bobby pin or hair clip.

Now this little girl can tell her big brothers NO PINCHING!

When my niece, Katie, was home for Easter I did a little crocheting for her. Katie is a Chi Omega and I thought she needed an owl purse (Chi Omega’s mascot). I don’t really expect her to carry it around campus but I thought it would make a cute bag for something.

It was simple to crochet and I thought having a zipper in the back made it extra cool. I bought the pattern here. The pattern is made by Ana Paula Rimoli. Her Etsy shop is filled with some darling patterns. She has free patterns for a cupcake, fried egg and bear.
