Hey Skip To My Lou readers; Sydney from Tastefully Frugal here today to share with you the easiest summer activity you will ever do with your kids! I have a few different scavenger hunt ideas on my 52 Days of Summer Bucket List and I was most excited about doing our color scavenger hunt. Being a mom of two active boys I am always looking for ways to keep them busy without spending a lot of money or time to setup; kids don’t like to wait to do things (especially when it’s hot outside). This project cost absolutely nothing to make and took zero time to prepare.
All you need are paint swatches from your local hardware store. I was at Lowe’s picking up materials for a mommy project and picked up a few paint swatches in every color of the rainbow. I didn’t know how into this idea my boys would be so I didn’t want to get a ton of different swatches that would just get thrown away; you’ve got to help save the trees any way you can right?!
Give your kids the swatches and ask them to find things around them that match the color on the swatch. My boys are two and three and they have so much fun doing this! We take these swatches everywhere and they love pointing things out on walks, in the car and even in the grocery store. They definitely enjoy finding things in nature the most and it has been a great motivator for me to get up and on our morning walks early before it gets too hot out. Not only are my boys having fun but they are learning too! I can’t wait to go back and get more swatches so we can match colors even closer.
