  • US G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • 1/2” or 3/4” Grosgrain Ribbon, cut to neck circumference plus 2 inches

Finishing

Step 1. Fold the main bow tie in half and whipstitch the ends together

1. Fold the main bow tie in half and whipstitch the ends together.

Step 2. Open it up and fold it so that the thinner parts of the tie meet in the middle

2. Open it up and fold it so that the thinner parts of the tie meet in the middle. You may tack the thinner parts together with a stitch at this point if you wish. Weave in the loose ends.

Step 3. Take the bow tie center, wrap it around the thinner part or the main bow tie and whipstitch the ends together

3. Next, take the bow tie center, wrap it around the thinner part or the main bow tie and whipstitch the ends together, being sure not to sew it to the main bow tie. Weave in the loose ends.

Step 4. Take your grosgrain ribbon and thread it through the center bow tie

4. Take your grosgrain ribbon and thread it through the center bow tie. Affix your Velcro to each end and you’re done!

Note: I used grosgrain ribbon instead of crocheting a neck band in order to obtain a slim profile under a shirt collar. In addition, it is much faster and easier, and isn’t that something we all need during the holidays?!? Feel free to match your ribbon and yarn. I simply used what I had on hand since it wouldn’t show anyway.
