Hi there!  It’s Laura from Make Life Lovely, and I am SO excited to share a fun Halloween treat with you today!  My blog is full of crafty DIY’s, recipes, free printables, holiday ideas, party ideas, and so much more.  I’d love for you to stop by and say hi!

Chocolate Suckers

One of my favorite Halloween symbols is the skeleton, so I created some chocolate skeleton suckers featuring skulls and all sorts of skeleton bones.

This spooky treat is perfect for making with your little ghouls and goblins, and is the perfect treat for a Halloween party, or to pass out to friends.

Want to make your own?  Here’s how…

Supplies:

  • Brown and white chocolate bark or chocolate melts
  • Skeleton chocolate mold (I bought mine at Michael’s for just $1.99)
  • Sucker sticks

White Chocolate Bones Directions:

First we will make the white chocolate skeleton bones.  Melt some white chocolate according to the directions on the package, and use a spoon to carefully pour the melted chocolate into the molds.

Melting the chocolate

Gently tap the plastic mold a few times on the counter after filling each mold to pop any air bubbles.  Place the filled mold in the freezer for about 10 minutes to harden the chocolate.

Chocolate Bones

Once the chocolate has set, gently twist the mold, and turn upside down to release the bones.  If any of the bones have excess chocolate around the edges from overfilling the mold, simply use your finger to rub and smooth away the excess.

Chocolate Sucker Directions:

To make the chocolate suckers, melt the chocolate (following the manufacturer’s directions), then place about a Tablespoon full of melted chocolate onto a piece of wax paper or freezer paper. Gravity will help spread the chocolate into a circle.

Take a sucker stick and roll the end into the chocolate to coat it, making sure top of the stick is covered.  Repeat for as many suckers as you would like to make.

Skull suckers

Now for the fun part!  After you have made all of the chocolate suckers, gently place the white chocolate skeleton bones onto each sucker.  The suckers should be soft enough for the bones to stick to the suckers, but hard enough that the bones don’t sink too far into the chocolate suckers.

Get creative with how you place the bones!  I made some look like the pirate skull and cross bones, on others I just used feet.

To speed up the hardening process, I placed my suckers in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Don’t leave them for much longer than that or they will start to bloom and will have condensation when they come back to room temperature.

Aren’t they cute?  With very little effort, you now have some adorable and unique handmade suckers to share!
