As you probably already know, Teacher Appreciation Week is going on the first full week in May. If your life is anything like mine, this is the busiest month of the year. The problem is that I REALLY appreciate our children’s teachers. My own mother is a teacher, and after spending hours in our boy’s school, I have seen with my own eyes how hard teachers work to help their students. Seriously, teaching might be one of the hardest jobs in the world. Those ladies (and gents) are amazing!

I love being crafty. I do. It’s in my genes. I sew. I paint. I draw. I glue. Just not in May! I am a full time freelance graphic designer and photographer. May is full of spring family photo sessions and last minute senior pictures. Not to mention, this is when many of my freelance clients are gearing up for summer events for their businesses. On top of that, I oversee the Teacher Appreciation Book Project at our elementary school.

If I was super organized, I would have arranged special Teacher Appreciation gifts earlier in the spring and had them in waiting. But, I didn’t, I’m not superwoman after all. What I can do is run to the local nursery or hardware store and pick up a hanging basket. They are so beautiful right now and what home dweller doesn’t love some fresh flowers in a self contained pot?

HERE is an easy and FREE printable gift tag you can attach to any gift you can come up with for your teacher. After all, it’s really the thought that counts. I think most teachers just want to know that someone notices how hard they work to educate and train the next generation.

After you print. Have your child write a thoughtful note to their teacher. Handwritten notes really need to make a comeback, don’t you think?

Some other EASY (craft free) gift ideas:

  • Deliver take-out (or have it delivered) for lunch for your teacher (or other staff member(s).
  • 6 pack of soda or pack of Starbucks Fraps or Via (seriously- some teachers take in A LOT of caffeine to make it through a whole day in the classroom, wouldn’t you?)
  • Sharpies- a great big pack of colorful sharpies is the way to any teacher’s heart.
  • Bouquet of flowers
