History Behind May Day Baskets
In some areas of the United States, May Baskets are made for May Day, a celebration of Spring. May Day Baskets are small baskets usually filled with flowers and candy that are left at someone’s doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away. We call it the ding and dash at our house!
Making May Day Baskets
Once again this year we have had a late frost so finding fresh flowers in our yard was not an option. We decided poted flowers would have to do. These jiffy containers along with some 18 gauge wire made perfect baskets for potted flowers.
We also gathers a few embellished from our local craft store to pretty up the jiffy pots
May Baskets How to Make
Begin by adding a few embellishments to the jiffy pot. Cut a piece of scrap book paper to go around the pot and fastened with hot glue. Hot glue some flowers to the front.
Use the wire to cut a long handle for the jiffy pot.
Push the wire in the side of the jiffy pot and wrap it around.
These cute chalk board markers were found at the craft store. The perfect way to say Happy May Day!

Did you make a template for the paper that goes around the pot? If so would you share? TIA
SO cute!! Love the history of may day baskets! Thanks for sharing!
