Unclog a drain the natural way with two items you probably already have on hand {costs almost nothing}!  Here is the deal I know you are not supposed to send potato peels down the drain….but well somehow they ended up down there, has that happened to you? I didn’t want to call and plumber and the water was spinning and coming back up, so in a pinch I gave this a try and wow it unclogged the drain!  So before you call the plumber give this home remedy a try. I do love a good household tip that saves time and money! You won’t believe how I make my grill non-stick! It is another clever natural cleaner.

Unclog Drain

How to unclog a drain

First remove standing water.  Pour about a 1/2 box of baking soda in the drain. Then pour in about a cup of white vinegar. Let this mixture sit in the drain for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes pour about 4 quarts of hot or boiling water down the drain. This should do the trick. If not, plunge a few times (yes a toilet plunger really works). If that doesn’t loosen try a second cup of baking soda followed by pouring another 1-2 cups of vinegar down the drain. Run the disposal and water as well, it should be working. Rinse with cool water. I hope this natural drain cleaner works for you! What is your favorite household tip? I would love to hear.

  1. That’s not logical and it has been recommended by plumbers in the past. I actually use this periodically myself to keep things cleaned out.

  2. Baking soda and hand washing dish detergent works great on ovens and pots and pans too.

  3. I highly recommend Drain-FX. I heard about it on the Gary Sullivan show and it turns your faucet into a mini pressure washer. It cleared my sink drains and I didn’t have to use any chemicals. I purchased it online.

  4. “Pour about a 1/2 box of baking soda ” — how big a box?? Your picture shows box but the bottom was blurry so I am not sure if this is a 1lb Box.

    Thank you!
