Adohable Playdough Valentines - The Twinery

First things first…let’s make the playdough! Let me be the first to tell you: this is the BEST homemade playdough recipe! It’s scented (you can even choose the scent!) and pretty much foolproof. And it beats the store bought, name brand stuff any ol’ day! I think you are going to love this great recipe!

DIY Playdough Supplies:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 package of Jell-O (3 oz. box) – any flavor will work!
  • Optional: glitter (to make the playdough sparkly) and food coloring (to make the playdough more vibrant)

Valentine Playdough Ingredients - The Twinery

How to Make Playdough

Place all ingredients together in a small saucepan. Whisk together over medium heat on the stove. If you plan to add glitter, add it into the saucepan with the other ingredients as well.

Oh, and the delicious smell of the Jell-O…Mmmm!

Once the ingredients are heating up and all whisked together, reach for a rubber spatula to finish mixing the dough until it starts to form a ball. Once the ball is formed, remove the saucepan from the heat. Dump the playdough out onto a floured surface (we put it on parchment paper on the counter) and let cool about 10-15 minutes. Then, using a little bit of extra flour, knead the playdough together until it’s no longer sticky.

TIPS: If you plan to make more than one color, we recommend washing the saucepan and kitchen gadgets in between each batch so you get a perfect color each time. I’ve only made single batches of the recipe, but I’m sure you can at least double the recipe to make more playdough at one time.

**We did NOT use extra food coloring. We loved the way the playdough looked just with the Jell-o itself! And who needs an extra mess, right?!

How to Assemble Play Doh Valentines
