I’m thrilled to be posting here at Skip To My Lou today! My bloggy home is Reasons To Skip The Housework – and I’ve most recently shared my Creamy Chicken Enchiladas, a DIY Train Table, and a yummy Summertime Orange Lemonade

My latest creation is a sewing project – something that doesn’t happen too much on Reasons To Skip The Housework.

So, when a sewing project turns out well, I feel the need to celebrate! What better way to celebrate than to share my Fat Quarter Curtains with Skip To My Lou readers!

These fat quarter curtain panels are super easy to make, especially if you are a non-sewer like me.

Materials:

10 fat quarters {coordinating fabric}
ruffle ribbon

I bought 10 fat quarters – actually bought two sets of 5 that were already all matched up and perfect! I sewed 5 panels together for each side, made a little panel at the top for the bar and added a cute ruffle on the bottom. It’s embarrasingly easy, and doesn’t even require a tutorial to be shared! The only thing I did that was “new” to me and might be tutorial worthy was sewing each of the quarters together with a French Seam. My friend Kim was visiting while I was creating these and since she’s the queen of sewing, I took the opportunity to learn something new!

A little background on me – I’m a lazy sewer. I sew what I have to in order for the project to come together, but sometimes skim over the important parts and never get it done correctly. I have no patience for sewing. However, Kim suggested that if I used a French Seam on this project, the seams wouldn’t come apart in the wash. It really didn’t take much extra time and turned out to be such a neat addition to the panels.

I sewed the panels together first, with the WRONG sides together {1/4″ seam allowance}, then, placed the RIGHT sides together and sewed another seam {1/2″ seam allowance}.

This encases the seam inside of a little pocket so it won’t unravel as much! GENIUS!
Here’s the video I watched to figure out a French Seam…not hard at all {if I was able to do it!}

My tie backs are nothing more than the ruffle ribbon I had leftover… wrapped around the curtain {and clipped with a hair clip! oh, the horror!} These are not meant to be full and fluffy window covering curtains. They’re just sweet and cute little panels that “girly-up” my three year old’s room a bit!

I love them, and I know they’ll be a part of her room as she grows with it!
