I am excited to be offering 30 days of fun crafts to keep kids active and entertained this summer! You won’t want to miss a day of these fun crafts for kids from some amazing bloggers! Please be sure to pay them a visit!

Hi there, Craft Campers!  This is Jill from Homemade by Jill.  I’ve always loved making things for kids, and now that my children are getting a little older, I’m learning to love making things with kids.  My son and I worked together to make some leaf print t-shirts.

First things first, get out into nature and take a hike!  I gave all the kids nature bingo cards to keep them observing (we used the free printable from Totally Tots).  Have the kids collect leaves and other nature treasures in a bag to bring home.

Once you’ve collected a nice assortment of leaves, get started with your leaf prints.  We found that leaves with interesting shapes and prominent veins make the best prints.  You’ll also need fabric, or a plain t-shirt, fabric paint, and a sponge brush.

  1. Give your leaves a nice, even coat of paint.  You want to apply enough to cover the leaf completely, but try to avoid having gloppy spots.
  2. Press the leaf to your fabric, smoothing it down completely with your fingers.
  3. Pull the leaf away carefully to reveal your print!
  4. Repeat as desired.

Let your paint dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions.  Mine said to air dry for 24 hours, and then heat-set with a hot iron before washing and wearing.

Sew up your t-shirt, if you printed fabric, and you’re all done!  Your kids will be thrilled to wear something they had a hand in making.
