Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week in May. Through all of April I am excited to share some amazing ideas from some of the most wonderful bloggers for my Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas series! It’s a great month! You will be totally prepared with ideas to thank your teachers!
Here’s Brooke…
First of all, I am THRILLED to be guest posting over here at Skip to my Lou today! My name is Brooke, and I’m visiting from All Things Thrifty where I love to share fun and thrifty decorating ideas! I have four kiddos of my own, and teacher appreciation week is always a fun week at our house! The kids just LOVE to give their teachers their gifts. Plus it is fun to come up with a unique way to express our gratitude for those GREAT teachers out there!
This year, we decided to make personalized aprons for our teacher gifts!
I started out with a plain black apron from Wal-Mart. It was less than $3.00. 🙂 Next, I whipped out my Silhouette CAMEO and designed a graphic for the front! Before I cut it out onto the flocked heat transfer material, I mirrored the image. Then I cut it out {When I say “I” I mean the amazing Silhouette machine cut it. 🙂 Then I removed all of the extra heat transfer around the graphic. It turned out soooo cute! It was very fast too! Then I turned my iron on the hottest setting and placed a cotton piece of fabric in between the iron and the graphic and pressed hard until the graphic was adhering nicely. IMPORTANT: Don’t remove the clear sheet until it has cooled completely. {I learned this the hard way and some of my graphic came off!} So, take my advice and learn from my mistake. After it has cooled, the clear sheet will come right off. Go slowly as you remove the clear backing to make sure you have ironed long enough.
If your graphic starts to come off, you need to iron it longer. Viola! You have a cute, unique teacher gift! Plus the teacher in your life will now have a fun apron to use for many years to come! We tied the bad boy with a little piece of netting from the fabric drawer. The best part was watching the kids give their gifts! The kids’ faces were priceless, and they were soooo proud! Mrs. Yardley and Mrs. Brinkerhoff {in St. George, Utah} are now officially both the “best teachers ever!” {Mrs. Brinkerhoff, below on the right, took a fall at track and field day last week and got a black eye, broke her arm, and had to get stitches by her eye. That is why she is sporting a black eye in the photo.} Oaklyn was so excited to give Mrs. Brinkerhoff her apron that she asked if she would put it on!
Now you have a fun, unique way to tell your teachers that you love them! Thank you for letting me visit today! If you need some unique and thrifty home decor ideas, come over and visit All Things Thrifty sometime, I would love to have you!
Hi, I was wondering what you could do if you didn’t have a silhouette cameo?
Thanks
Please…what font did you use for the names of the teachers? Thanks!
I love it! Why did you mirror the image?
Where did you get the best teacher ever graphic? From the Silhouette Online Storeperhaps? I would love to do this and like the graphic you chose! Thanks! Julie
I love this idea and will be making these for my son’s preschool teachers! Thank you for the great idea. I am curious, what fonts you used in this project?
What a fabulous idea! So much better than receiving endless mugs and candy.
Awesome gift! You did a terrific job! Many Thanks for sharing 😉
