A day at Scentsy {Giveaway} Closed

Recently I was treated to a fabulous day at Scentsy headquarters. I have used and enjoyed Scentsy products, but I really didn't know much about the company. I walked away with a new respect for Scentsy! This day had quite an impression on me and I will use the things I learned to run my own business.

This now wildly successful company started from humble beginnings in an old shipping crate because they didn't even have enough money for office space! You can learn about their inspiring story here .

When I arrived I was welcomed to a beautiful hotel room with goodies and the room smelled amazing!  We learned about every aspect of the company. Great care  is taken in crafting the warmers, it can be seen in the rock to warmers video where we were shown the entire process.  They have the most unique warmers, each one is touched by human hands in their creation!

Loving these design boards!

We learned about the science behind the scents in a Fragrance 101 class. I will never look at scents the same again.

We enjoyed a fun Scentsy party.

I met the inspiring Heidi and Orville Thompson, who started Scentsy and I got to hang out with so many great friends!

Top row: Tenielle  Feisty, Frugal and Fabulous, Kari  Ucreate, Heidi and Orville Thompson (Owners of Scentsy), Juliet  Juicy Stuff, Shelley  House of Smiths, and me.

Bottom Row: Brooke All Things Thrifty, Kami  No Biggie, Shelley  How does She, Heather  Whipperberry, and me  Skip to my Lou.

I Loved my time at Scentsy!

EVERY single person that worked there, beamed as said that THEY had the best job at Scentsy. This can only happen with a unique company culture! Heidi and Orville dared to dream big  and guide their company with authenticity, generosity and simplicity. This was not an empty motto!  It was easy to see it hand been carefully injected into every aspect of their business.

Great care has been taken into growing this amazing business. Orville Thompson's guiding principle is that in every task and interaction with others, "You give more than you take." I love this! Can you imagine if this was everybody's guiding principal?

Next time you see a Scentsy warmer you will know that this is a wonderful company that cares about the people that work for them and the products they sell!

If you’ve never been to a Scentsy party , consider hosting one and sharing a fun experience with your friends! If you don’t know anyone near you that sells Scentsy and you want to check it out, a great way to find a consultant is to use the Find A Consultant link on the Scentsy website.  If you’ve been looking for a way to make money from home consider signing up as a Scentsy consultant . You would be working for an amazing company.

I totally stole this picture but I just can't help but share this group, doing what we all do best! Thank you to Scentsy for a wonderful day with wonderful friends ... truly inspiring!

Kid’s Thanksgiving Table Ideas

Don't you remember sitting at the "kids table" with your cousins during holiday meals at Grandma's house?  It was the best!  Here are links for some really fun ideas to make this Thanksgiving a memorable one for your little guests.

The check-off list right on the table from Hip Hip Hooray! is such a great way to entice the kids to try new foods -- a little peer pressure is not such a bad thing! ;-)

Shindig Parties To Go has some cute printables to make everything you need to decorate a kid's table.
If you live in a warm climate, wouldn't it be fun to set up the children's table outside?  Savvy Moms Guide has a tutorial on a fabulous table made of hay bales, a sheet of plywood and a little burlap!  Add tree stump stools, food, and kids and you have a recipe for a wonderful feast!

This pumpkin "turkey" from Very Heatherly would be so easy to make and would keep the kids entertained for quite awhile.

For a treasured childhood keepsake, let the kids make these cute felt turkeys to use as place holders on their own special table.   All You has a tutorial.

No Knead Bread

Happy National Homemade Bread Day!

My niece made this lovely bread from Jim Lahey, the man who started the no-knead bread craze.

She said it was  so awesome!  No kneading, little time hands on, but lots of waiting....

No-Knead Bread

adapted from Jim Lahey,  NY Times 2006
Yields one 1 1/2 pound loaf

3 cups all-purpose or bread flour, more for dusting
¼ teaspoon instant yeast
1¼ teaspoons salt
Cornmeal or wheat bran as needed.

1. In a large bowl combine flour, yeast and salt. Add 1 5/8 cups water, and stir until blended; dough will be shaggy and sticky. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest at least 12 hours, preferably about 18, at warm room temperature, about 70 degrees.

2. Dough is ready when its surface is dotted with bubbles. Lightly flour a work surface and place dough on it; sprinkle it with a little more flour and fold it over on itself once or twice. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest about 15 minutes.

3. Using just enough flour to keep dough from sticking to work surface or to your fingers, gently and quickly shape dough into a ball. Generously coat a cotton towel (not terry cloth) with flour, wheat bran or cornmeal; put dough seam side down on towel and dust with more flour, bran or cornmeal. Cover with another cotton towel and let rise for about 2 hours. When it is ready, dough will be more than double in size and will not readily spring back when poked with a finger.

4. At least a half-hour before dough is ready, heat oven to 450 degrees. Put a 6- to 8-quart heavy covered pot (cast iron, enamel, Pyrex or ceramic) in oven as it heats. When dough is ready, carefully remove pot from oven. Slide your hand under towel and turn dough over into pot, seam side up; it may look like a mess, but that is O.K. Shake pan once or twice if dough is unevenly distributed; it will straighten out as it bakes. Cover with lid and bake 30 minutes, then remove lid and bake another 15 to 30 minutes, until loaf is beautifully browned. Cool on a rack.

She said it was chewy, airy, and had a crispy crust.  Very good.

Thanks Megan for sharing your yummy and beautiful bread with me!
