Oh yes, smooth creamy delicious buttercream frosting!

It really is simple to make and well worth the effort!

Buttercream Frosting Recipe

1/2 cup softened butter

1/2 cup plain shortening

4 cups powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon Creme Bouquet

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 Tablespoons water or milk

pinch of salt

Mix with an electric mixer until light and creamy. Yes it is a standard recipe but there is a secret weapon!

It is Creme Bouquet! It makes the frosting bowl lickin’ good.  Using clear vanilla keeps the frosting nice and white!

This amount of frosting will frost at least a dozen cupcakes. I use a large closed star tip for frosting cupcakes.

Football starts this weekend. Decorate some cupcakes with #1 finger cupcake picks and football and helmet quins and you are ready for some football.

  2. Um – thank you for telling me about the creme bouquet. I ordered it from Sweet and got it this week. I made a cake for a party today and the kids could not stop eating the frosting. This was a dual party and the other mom had a fancy bakery cake — but the cake I made was an absolute hit! This is thee best buttercream frosting recipe EVAH!!!!!

  3. You can make this recipe with only shortening. Just replace the butter with shortening — it still tatses good and might hold up in the heat better for you!

  4. Does anyone know if this will hold up for a long while out of the fridge? My problems with buttercream is that it softens too fast…can’t get around it in Hawaii…and I find that kids usually don’t like the heavy butter taste. They’re used to the store bought cake/cupcake frosting which is all shortening. So I’m always searching for a frosting that the kids will like.

  5. I just checked out your store’s website – it looks fantastic! I’ll be sure to come back! Nice to know the person behind the store – and it makes it more fun to support that business! The layout and colours are so nice!

  6. So excited! I had heard that you were opening a shop from a friend who does cakes around here. I’ll need to take a road trip to Topeka and visit! Congratulations!

  7. I wouldn’t make buttercream frosting without the creme bouquet. I have used it for years. I have a little different recipe for buttercream. Basically the same except I don’t use any butter, I double the shortening. The butter makes the frosting an offwhite instead of pure white.

  8. OH, that creme bouquet sounds very good. I have not heard of that flavor before. I will have to check it out in your store 😉 It is also nice to know where I can order some of these items online.

  9. Creme bouquet, this is to artificial for me and the shortening… my hips will take more inches and my heart… no this time it is to much for me. I just will put the picture on my wall and look at it… very often.
I love your blog, and your shop.
    have a nice day
