Christmas In July

Rachel of A Southern Fairytale , Kelly of According to Kelly and I have gathered over 3 dozen amazing bloggers to serve up plenty of inspiration to get us sewing, baking and crafting for the holidays.

Starting this Monday each of our blogs will feature a different blogger, and a new project. I will host all the sewn gift ideas, Kelly the crafty gift ideas and Rachel all the edible gifts.  It is our hope that we can encourage everyone to make beautiful handmade gifts this holiday! ---and  if we all start now we will be prepared for the upcoming Holiday season... hopefully eliminating just a wee bit of stress!

We need your help too! We will be asking you to upload photos of your handmade gifts  to our flickr group and for the next few Mondays link your handmade gift ideas and tutorials right here on Made By You Mondays. Let's get the word out by tweeting with the hashtag #handmadeholiday.

I hope you will join in the fun!

Don't forget there is already a searchable Handmade Gift Guide right here at Skip  to my Lou!

You can even download a free printable Holiday Handmade Gift Planner.

Homemade Roller Rubber Stamps

I totally think Cathe Holden is amazing! She posted a fun little tutorial on how to make a darling pennant banner roller stamp. I decided I wanted it a bit bigger to use on larger packages.... so I made just a few changes. I seriously don't do her idea justice so please check out!

I used what I had around the house, Elmer's Rubber Cement, craft foam, an old wooden roller and scissors.

I cut my pennant out of the craft foam and glued it to the roller with rubber cement. Let this totally dry before inking.

Roll it on top of an ink pad and then across the paper.

Don't forget to write a message on your pennant bunting.

Next time I might make it smaller for easier rolling and use an ink pad that is not almost dried out.

Homemade Waffle Cones and Bowls

I have always wanted one of those special appliances for making those thin crispy cookies perfect for ice cream cones and edible bowls. I found one at my local Gourmet Shop and I am in love!

I used a Krumkake machine from Chef's Choice (Kitchen Gallery has more if you live locally, if not you can find them here).

Whip up this simple batter straight from the included recipe book:

Favorite German Krumkake Recipe

2/3 cup water

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 - 1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup flour

1 egg

Boil the water. While it is cooling, add 1/4 cup butter to water and stir to melt the butter completely. Add 1/2 cup of sugar to the the water while still warm and stir to dissolve. Allow to cool.

Add one cup of flour and 1 egg to water mixture. Mix thoroughly while adding vanilla. Makes about a dozen cones or bowls. Use about 2 tablespoons per krumkake.

Pour batter on the heated griddle.

Close lid and cook about 90 seconds.

I wanted to made edible bowls so I found two bowl shaped items, one that fit inside the other. While the Krumkake is still piping hot place in the bowl.

Allow to cool slightly and remove.

I love these bowls!

It also came with a tool to make cones.

So cool!

Ready for some ice cream?
