I found this recipe on Pinterest. I live near an apple orchard, so I went and bought a bushel of Jonathan apples and made this. WOW! It was amazing. I just finished my second batch to use as Christmas gifts. We also followed the recipe for Apple crisp. So we are including that in our gift as well. Also- this was my first time ever canning. Thank you so much for sharing! This is my absolute favorite!!

I've been canning apple pie filling for years...wanted a recipe that didn't have corn syrup in it. My son travels 8 hours, just for his homemade apple pie nestled in his favorite pie crust made with an egg and apple cider vinegar.

Home canning is easy and fun but make sure you follow basic guidelines about the water bath canning...lots of info online and also a great books "Ball Home Canning" is one I like too. The apples in this recipe do not have to be cooked before putting them in the jar, because in the final step, placing the jars in the water bath (boiling water for 15 mins...the apples will soften and "cook" right in the jar and at the same time, any bacteria is killed, then you can put the processed jars on a shelf in your pantry for up to a year as long as the lids sealed properly. This is a fun skill that you will enjoy so learn how to do it! it is not hard, just takes a little time and fresh produce. Good to see younger folks taking up some of the "old ways" again!
