I am going to try this again because I am passionate about teachers and the tremendous work they do. Only a few people nominated their favorite and deserving teacher to win $100.00 OfficeMax Gift Card. I hope you will consider taking a moment to use your entry as a way to say thank you to a teacher. They may win $100 or they may not, but I think telling others about a special teacher is a tribute and honor for them.

I feel that the more we share about the amazing work teachers are doing, we will all have a greater level of understanding and appreciation of their job.

If I could enter this is what I would say:

A letter to our teacher,

For the moment my first finger hit the keyboard to write this I am brought to tears. The shear thanks and gratitude for all you do overwhelms me. How would we get through our days with you? How would our child succeed and grow without your dedication? We are thankful for your support, encouragement and care. We appreciate the unpaid hours you spend overseeing our son’s IEP, attending meetings and learning. We are grateful for you continually going above and beyond — For coming to our home on those mornings we are all overwhelmed and going to school doesn’t seem possible. We appreciate the time you spend perfecting your craft, your desire to be innovative and your continued willingness to try again when things don’t work. There is no amount of money that could possibly reimburse you for all the extra things you do. In fact, not only are you not fully compensated for your time, knowledge and expertise, you contribute your own money buying incentives and extra supplies.

So for all you have done for my family my sincerest thanks. Your hard work is not lost on us and your extreme dedication does not go unnoticed. We appreciate your care and concern. We believe your work is the most valuable and influential job. Thank you for not seeing it as just a “job”and for seeing my child as special and important!

While I don’t have a teacher to nominate (kids are too young) I have plugged it on facebook. I do have friends who are teachers and do spend their very hard earned money on supplies. Thanks for raising awareness!

Two of my daughters are in the same 4th grade class this year! Their teacher has become a great, great friend to our family and is making a world of difference in my daughters’ lives. I would love to honor her and her above and beyond work with this gift card!!

This year in first grade my usually confident and self assured little learner has turned into a little anxiety riddled munchkin, so worried about following the rules and not getting into trouble. But our teacher, Miss Duff has made every effort to comfort my nervous little one and make her days of learning stress free and filled with fun. I am so appreciative for her ability to really build up my little girl and to reinforce what a strong learner she truly is. I definitely think this teacher deserves every little ounce of positive praise and reinforcement and is certainly deserving of the $100.

I work at an elementary school and it’s true: teachers spend an unimaginable amount of their own money for classroom materials, including furniture and organizing supplies. Our special education department is in need to additional supplies, and I would like to nominate them…they work with students that can be hard to love at times, and on their rough days, this can be a big job. Added to that, they attend meetings, write IEPs and monitor them, usually on their own time. They are certainly deserving of the $100!

My kids are in high school now, but I would nominate ALL their teachers at their elementary school. Each and every teacher helped mold my kids into the fine students they are today. Teachers are special!

I would like to nominate my colleague and friend, Ginger DeCavitch. Ginger and I teach at a school with a variety of students–some who speak little or no English, some with very special needs, some with gifted needs, some with home lives that make us cry, and some who really want to be at school because they love learning. She works every day to inspire the students and her fellow teachers. She is constantly looking for labs that will show the kids hands on what the concept means, usually spending her own funds to do so. She looks constantly for ways to improve and be better. She asks other people what else she can do, how she can modify her lessons and information. In short she is an amazing inspiration to the kids and the teachers in our building and would be so deserving of this award!

I would like to nominate my sister. She is a reading recovery teacher in Vancouver WA. She has always had a special gift with children whether it be teaching in the normal classroom or her current role as a reading recovery specialist. I’ll state the obvious, but its imperative kids learn to read! At times kids who don’t get the opportunity to work with a RR specialist will struggle througout their years because they didn’t learn to read. I’m sure the kiddos don’t realize the good opportunity that was just handed to them, but they will later in life when. She’s great and truly cares about the kids.

I would like to nominate my sons teachers Ms. Nina and Ms. Gail for helping my son feel welcomed and comfortable at his new school. Theses teachers are so sweet and giving with the children.

Well i would nominate my son’s first grade teacher Mrs. McDougal, as she is trying so hard with so little to work with! I have even seen her there on Saturday! (we live right nearby the school) She is working hard to get these former kindergarteners into shape while working with budget restrictions and new guidelines enacted this year. She remembers that young children need to move as well as learn! Thanks for all your efforts!

I would like to nominate my husband. He teaches high school in ural Tennessee. A lot of his students are facing some serious issues at home with drugs and alcohol and they themselves are getting pulled into the cycle. He has gone out of his way to reach these students and let them know that there is more out there than what their parents and peers are doing. He has a big heart and tends to bring his work home, influencing his moods a lot. I’ve never seen a teacher more concerned for their students, even in all my years of school. I feel honored to call him my husband.

My son’s teachers are great. However I feel that we are in an area that has more financial resources than other schools/teachers may have. So while I would stand on the rooftop and rave about his teachers and school, I would prefer the $ to go to a teacher/school with greater needs.

Mrs. Nancy is a teacher who gives her heart and soul to every child in her class. She is loving yet able to discipline at a moments notice. She homeschooled all 5 of her children and is using those skills she acquired through life experiences to get my child ready for kindergarten. Her energy and positive attitude is contagious and I leave my son there knowing he is building a great foundation for his upcoming school years.

I meant to do this the last time you wrote about it and I am so glad you have decided to do it again.

I would like to nominate two teachers who co-teach the kindergarden class at Northridge Elementary School. Mrs. Ashby and Mrs.Crisp. My daughter Lily was a wallflower when she started. She was very quiet and never spoke during class unless she was approached. Her teachers have been fantastic with her. They have brought her out of her shell and helped her to build friendships. They have made school a place that she wants be at and a place she is excited to go to.
Mrs. Ashby’s and Mrs. Crisp’s dedication have given my daughter a wonderful positive start to her education. They have built in her an excitement for learning. What an amazing gift to give a child!
Kindergarden is such an important start to school and really sets the tone for the childs experience for the rest of their education. Because of their commitment to their students I know that any student lucky enough to have will begin their education on a very positive note.
Mrs.Ashby and Mrs. Crisp are amazing!
Due to huge budget cuts in our school district Northridge has lost very important funding for classroom needs. A gift card would be a wonderful reward for the hard work and caring that these ladies give to thier students.

I dont live in the States but teachers play such an important role in our childrens’ lives … that when you find an amazing teacher, you want every child to experience what they have to offer our precious little gems … so, I’m sure that which ever teacher wins this gift card will be well deserving and will appreciate it more than anyone will ever now …
