I am honored to be part of this wonderful program from OfficeMax and Adopt-A-Classroom. I hope you all will join in and honor a deserving teacher in your life! Teachers can use our help and support! Please nominate a special teacher for the chance to win a $100 Office Max Gift Card.
Did you know teachers spend an average of $1200 of their own money on classroom supplies each year? That is $4 billion annually! That's why OfficeMax joined with Adopt-A-Classroom to create "A Day Made Better" a national cause event founded to erase teacher-funded classrooms. This year, "A Day Made Better" will take place on October 6 where 1,000 teachers will be surprised in their classrooms each with $1,000 worth of essential supplies from OfficeMax. That is more than one million dollars donated to help teachers! Principals at needy schools nominated the teachers for demonstrating dedication, innovation, and passion.
To pay-it-forward, OfficeMax and Mom It Forward have teamed up to create awareness about the issue of teacher-funded classrooms and to give you the opportunity to get involved and help a teacher in your community on behalf of the “A Day Made Better.” Here’s how…

I know for a fact this true. I was a kindergarten teacher (in a former career) and worked at a school where the majority of the children were on free or reduced lunch. At the beginning of the year I was always stocking up on our basic supplies such as scissors, crayons, and construction paper in case some of the kids were unable to bring all the supplies from the list. Also, my husband currently teacher Physics and Environmental Science in a high school. His school and district are not very good at budgeting and right now the teachers are having to buy their own COPY PAPER. He just bought four reams (500 sheets) this weekend. And that doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the materials he bought over the summer for his classroom. So, I hope you get a lot of entries and thank you for helping raise awareness.
Anna
My daughter teaches in a school with some lower income children and she does spend a lot of her own money on items for class. So many dont even bring supplies at the first of the year that she buys some to help out so nobody feels left out for not having.
GOOD PRIZE!
I NEED TO WIN THIS..I LOVE OFFICE MAX!
YEAH…OFFICE MAX!!
I would love to give this to my daughter’s teacher. She came to our school this year from a very small town. She usually had 5 students and now she has close to 20. I know she could use this in her classroom. We live in a town where their are many families in need and I know she puts money into her classroom.
I would be honored to give this to my daughters teacher. We live in a small town and our school is its own district. Our school has over 50% of the kids on free lunches…meaning most are low income families. Last year our teachers lost 4 months worth of pay due to state budget cuts and it looks like the same will happen this year. This money would be a huge help to go towards supplies for her classroom.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL
My son and I would like to nominate his 5th grade teacher at Amity Intermediate Center – Mrs. Moslak – for your $100 Office Max Gift Card. Mrs. Moslak has a unique way of teaching….she makes it fun for the kids! She engages the children in activities to help them learn – and the kids love her! Mrs. Moslak is very dedicated to her students and it is evident she loves her job and she loves making a difference in the childrens’ lives. Her warmth and kindness have been a huge factor in our son’s success so far this year. Winning your $100 gift card would be so helpful to Mrs. Moslak in purchasing supplies to continue her creative, unique teaching in a classroom full of learning and fun! She deserves it! Thank you for your kind consideration.

My son in Autistic. He is currently 8 years old. He has been in the educational system since he was 3. As part of a military family, he currently attends the 5th school with his 5th teacher in as many years. We are blessed that his current teacher has been has been with him for 2 consecutive years. This is the 1st time he’s had any consistency. She has made a world of difference. It’s amazing the progress he has made. Her approach is the best that I have experienced. She addresses all of his needs! She approaches each day, situation, & student with positivity. She’s by far the best teacher my son has had thus far. Our time here has definitely been a turning point!
I am a classroom teacher and I spend hundreds of dollars a year on classroom supplies! I would like to nominate my friend for this award. She works in an alternative school, and they are often forgotten when it comes to donations. She is such a kind woman, and her students LOVE her!

I worked with a wonderful teacher named Kellie. I was an interpreter for a Deaf boy and she was a little unsure about having me come into her classroom and do my thing, but we became good friends and she was such a support for me through good times and bad. She encouraged the boy I worked with and expected the best from him, even though he didn’t always think he could do it. It’s great to have a child realize that they’re able to do big things!
Mrs. “D” as they call her, is the definition of “teacher.” My daughter has stayed in Catholic School, simply to have Mrs. Daddazio as her 8th grade homeroom, language, and religion teacher. She ALWAYS provides her students with a safe, inspirational, fair, fun, learning environment and gets to know each child’s personality and strengths. She would be incredibly thankful to get this gift and no doubt would use it for her students! Smiling is a requirement in her class and this would put a smile on her face for sure. Thank you!
While I know that everyone feels the same, our teachers are the best. They spends so much of their time in and out of the classroom to prepare our kids to be high achievers. My daughter loves school because of them, and that is the best gift anyone could give us as parents.
Here it is on my profile at Facebook.

I want to nominate a teacher I work with. Mrs. Amy is our pre K four year old teacher at First Baptist in New Braunfels, Texas. She has done some amazing stuff with her kids this year, and I think people often forget about how much work preschool teachers do. As the 2 year old teacher, I am potty training 12 children all at the same time, and while Amy doesn’t have to deal with that end, she works just as hard teaching them many of the things that they will have to know in Kindergarten. It is easy to think that preschool programs just let the children play, and while that is vital part of social interaction at this age, Mrs. Amy also works on many other things. Since day one, her students have been excited to head to class!
I would like to nominate one of my son’s teachers for the award. My son is a senior at Kell High School in Marietta, Ga. and has an awesome German teacher. Herr Snider has taught my son for 3 years and always works to make his class sessions interesting. He goes above and beyond. For the 3rd year students this year there is no textbook so he is working with the students to create travel passports so that the students can experience travel to Germany (even if it is only virtual). He also cares about the parents and is always available is participates in the optional school teacher blogs so that parents can learn more about what is going on in class. I’m not sure of the exact details but I know he is a very “new” teacher and therefore having to create all of the teaching experiences on his own, from scratch, and from his own pocket. The county we live in previously supplied some monies for the classroom but had to cut that out this year. His classroom walls depict a teacher that cares because they are full of details about Germany and the German language. He also is the sponsor for the German club and has taken students on summer excursions in the past. There are so many more things I could add but one can only hope that more young adults persue teaching as a profession even though the tradition of too low pay and having to spend their own money to enhance (or even get by in) their classrooms. I am so impressed with his dedication.
Thanks so much for allowing me to voice my appreciation….I would love to present him with a gift card!!!!

I would LOVE to nominate my daughters 4th grade teacher from last year……..Mrs Evette Jones from McAuliffe Elementary in Highland Village – what a truly phenomenal person and teacher.
Her dedication to getting the kids in her class to perform past what they ever thought they could do, is a true testament to her. We know this from personal experience!!!!
She’s faced her share of difficulties over the past year, but if you didn’t know her personally, you would never have been any the wiser.
Her genuine love, care and concern for the kids in her class as well as their siblings and parents shows her willingness to go far beyond the call of duty…………….my son already has his hopes set on getting her in a years time:)
Evette we love you and wish you could have moved on with Brit to 5th Grade – you are an amazing example of what a true teacher is.
We’ll be eternally grateful for everything you did for our little girl – you’re the reason 5th grade has started off so well for her:-)
I have posted your blog on Facebook…….so head on over everyone:-)
It would be hard to decide which teacher would deserve it most in my kids’ school. I do think my middle school daughter’s science/math teacher really goes the extra mile and shows her love for kids. Her name is Mrs. Hettinger.
I would like to nominate my children teacher, Mrs. McAnulty. She is so dedicated to helping my children succeed that she spends countless hours tailoring work for them so that they can each learn at their own pace in their own manner. I have witnessed this tender care from her with many, many students throughout the years. In fact, right now she is also a part time tutor for two Vietnamese students. Her loving care of these students has helped them not only learn the English language, but has also taught them the values America was founded on. It’s amazing to see such a great teacher at work.
I posted this as a note on my facebook.
I would like to nominate my mother. My mom has been a teacher for over 25 years. She has taught many different grade levels and at a few different schools. Currently my mom teaches second grade and has been a teacher in that same classroom since I was in 2nd grade (15 years ago). She is very creative and LOVES her kids. She works very hard at making sure each child is learning to their full potential. She makes learning fun and keeps the classroom a place of acceptance, kindness and Christian values.
She thinks outside the box and makes sure that her lessons are appopriate, fun and innovative. She often times helps me think of things to do with my 3 year old as I begin homeschooling her. She is very dedicated to her students and wants to see them all succeed. Whenever I meet a new friend that had my mom as their teacher they usually tell me that she was their favorite teacher and I have to agree. She’s a great teacher, mentor, and mother!
Unfortunately I don’t know any teachers. All my children are grown and their children are in other states. I would love to have nominated one of my teachers but she was 55 years ago. I still remember the very tall, kind woman with red hair that was my first grade teacher. She loved us all and never failed to give a hug a day.
I would like to nominate my colleague and friend, Ginger DeCavitch. Ginger and I teach at a school with a variety of students–some who speak little or no English, some with very special needs, some with gifted needs, some with home lives that make us cry, and some who really want to be at school because they love learning. She works every day to inspire the students and her fellow teachers. She is constantly looking for labs that will show the kids hands on what the concept means, usually spending her own funds to do so. She looks constantly for ways to improve and be better. She asks other people what else she can do, how she can modify her lessons and information. In short she is an amazing inspiration to the kids and the teachers in our building and would be so deserving of this award!
I am having trouble doing a note on facebook, I added it to my blog and it will be imported to Facebook soon. Thanks
I would like to nominate a teacher in the building I teach at – we are under huge budget cuts and she is trying to develop a new curriculum and needs necessary supplies with no funding – this would be a huge help to her in aquiring the necessary supplies. Thanks for the opportunity to help, I know first hand how much out of pocket money we spend to better educate our students.
Joe Hays teaches in a high-poverty inner-city St. Louis, MO elementary school. Joe has named his students the Superstars and is teaching them to live up to that name. He has created a cool, colorful learning space for the kids, all with his own money. Get this: he even has to buy his own COPY paper!!! He is currently plastering the classroom walls with college/univ t-shirts and pennants to encourage his students to think about and work towards college, not something usually considered in their environment. Joe is a person who believes in people and their possibilities, and those Superstars are so blessed to have him as their teacher.
For more info on Joe, I have a blog entry about him and the Superstars: http://lonestarlifer.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/real-superstars/
Thanks so much for having this giveaway. I would so love to show those kids that there are folks out there who DO care about their future.
I also posted the three tweets on my Twitter page: http://twitter.com/lonestarlifer
Remember, Joe Hays!
I would like to nominate Ms Bisceglia an amazing person, great role model, and a Teacher who would knock your socks off. My son was diagnosed with dyslexia this summer and she has been an amazing support for me. She alters his homework, sends positvie emails to celebrate accomplishments, big or small. Is she great with just my son? Nope. She is this positive, supportive, and genuine caring, of every single student in her class. Ms. Bisceglia announced she would be having a baby during this school year in March. Some parents were disappointed that their child would not have her all year long. One Mom who had Ms. Bisceglia before said, “If my daughter had one day, just one day with Ms. Bisceglia, her understanding of what a kind, and loving teacher will be defined forever.” She impacts and inspires.
I would love to nominate my mother-in-law! She is an exceptional, passionate, thoughtful teacher, full of creativity and a real love for her students and her work. She has plowed ahead through whatever comes her way, and has always made her students her top priority. She not only teaches Science, she lives it, breathes it, and loves it! We are always going to her for inspiration. She is a dedicated woman with a big heart and a sharp mind. I think she highly deserves to win a gift card to help her supply what she needs to keep her kids growing and learning in a progressive and fun environment.
I don’t think a link to Facebook will work, because my profile isn’t public, but I copied and pasted the link that I posted. I hope this counts!

i wanna “vote” for amanda shorts post.. golly.. you know most of their pay is going to supplies if they are getting their salaries cut.. yikes..
I would like to nominate my daughters teacher Ms. Kathy Lunetta. My words do not do justice to describe how fortunate I feel to have her in my childs life but I will try. She has been teaching for over 15 years and is one of the kindest souls i’ve ever met. During our back to school night, she took the time to explain everything that our child will learn and experience this year in her class and I could tell she was meant to guide children into bright, thriving individuals. Being a mom herself to a now grown up daughter who also teaches and a special needs child, i’m inspired by how much love she has for her family and the 27 kids in her class this year. She has been heavily involved in Scholastics and programs that help get new books and supplies into the classroom for her kids and I know she will make the most of a $100 gift card if I was fortunate enough to earn her one. Thanks for your time and consideration.
I nominate my daughter’s teacher, Ms. K. Hall. I come from a family of teacher (3 generations) so I know exactly just how much stuff in a classroom is bought by the teacher with their own money. I just wish there was enough cards to give every teacher one of their own. I know they could make $100 go a long way.
Hi
I’m not in the US so I can’t enter, but I just wanted to say that its a pity you can’t win your own competition because your teacher sounds fantastic.
I hope you send your special teacher a link to your post where you write your letter or that you print it out for her? to read. I’m sure just reading it will make her realise how valued she is.
My oldest is just starting school and its heartwarming to see there are such teachers out there and I really hope we get to experience one half as good in our schooling future.
Thanks!
I would love to nominate my son’s teacher Sandy Nelson. She’s worked so very hard with him over the past two years to help him catch up in school. He is autistic and has trouble with reading and math. She’s done wonders for him!!!

I’ve been thinking about this long and hard and don’t know how I could pick just one teacher that my children have had. We have been so fortunate to have teachers that are passionate and so flexible with all the different students they have in their rooms-each with different needs. Our school has more kids on financial assitance than not. We are a levy funded school and we have struggled to get them passed-that means that this year our music room was turned into a classroom and so was our computer lab-now disbanded. Music will soon be taught in a corner of our gymnasium, right now that teacher takes her room on a cart to each classroom. When my son was in Kindergarten the school was so strapped that they could not give the teachers copy paper. Parents brought it in by the ream just so the kids could have worksheets. & parents could have newsletters. Our teachers are amazing & creative & they have to be innovative just to overcome funding issues. But I’m not sure how I could just pick one out of the 14 or so amazing teachers my children have had or the dozens of other teachers that I’ve gotten to know through voluenteering at our school… They ALL deserve it!!! Thank you for bringing awareness to this issue!
I would like to nominate my daughter’s first grade teacher, Ms. Reimer. She has a couple of students who don’t speak English and a couple who participate in the gifted/talented program. Talk about a wide range of abilities in the classroom! She has taken on the challenge and finds ways to keep the children engaged, no matter what their level of ability is. She also makes it a point to have the children work together so that they learn the value of teamwork and how to value and appreciate one another’s abilities.
My daughter has a wonderful teacher , Mr. Gonzales, who does a lot to personally fund his classroom. He has even brought his own copy machine in to keep in the class. He loves the children and is so good with them. If you ask the kids in the 3rd grade class, they will tell you he plays with them at recess and eats lunch with them. What a great teacher, and well deserving of this gift card. Thanks for this important giveaway!

I would like to nominate a wonderful and deserving teacher, Mrs. Chaffee. My son, who was only 4 years old when he started kindergarten this year, has had some trouble adjusting to the higher expectations of a kindergartener versus a pre-schooler both academically and socially.
Mrs. Chaffee has spent many hours of her free time to help him excel and be the best kid and student he can be. This includes several meetings with us to discuss the problems he is having, trying many different approaches to resolve those problems as well as the added time and responsibility of reporting back to us on an hour by hour basis his work habits and behavior each day of the week. Her continued support has been invaluable in getting my son on the right track this year.
Mrs. Chaffee clearly loves her job and genuinely wants what is best for each child in her classroom. It is obvious that she is acutely aware that every child is different and she is willing to go the extra mile to identify what works best on an individual basis. I know that this is not required of a teacher but feel very fortunate that we are blessed to have my son in her classroom.
With the tremendous budget cuts that have hit the educational system this year, I know that our school has taken a big hit and that Mrs. Chaffee is having to supplement her classroom out of her own pocket. I would love to help her out in any way possible and know that she is truly deserving of this honor.

Like mentioned above, a link to my facebook account will not work as it is a private account. I have added a link to this website and encouraged everyone to nominate the special teacher in their lives as well.
