actually Strawberry Tallcake. I had never made a traditional layer cake from scratch so when I saw the Best Butter Cake in Sunset Magazine I decided to give it a go.
I love how you can use this simple basic (and really yummy) recipe to make four different cakes: Fudge Butter Cake , Strawberry Tallcake , Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake, Lemon Meringue Cake. This recipe will definitely become a standard.
The Strawberry Tallcake made a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for two very special friends.
The cake did take longer to bake than what is mentioned in the recipe. I followed the recipe exactly except I did not have any strawberry jam.
Thanks for taking the time to visit me today!

That looks so delicious and light! I think I’d prefer the actual strawberries to the jam, but I’m a strawberry lover =)
That looks AMAZING! Lucky Friends! =) I will have to give this a shot, maybe even the chocolate one, for our Anniversary coming up or something.
This looks completely yummy. I think I will have to give it a try.
This looks delicious!
Beautiful cake! Lucky friends!
Oh PERFECT! I just told my family yesterday that I want strawberry shortcake for my birthday on Wednesday, but now I will have to send them here and change my order to the tall variety
! Thanks for sharing this!
I have my fork and plate ready, does it come through the internet in one piece? Looks wonderful and delicious.
Yumm…… any leftovers???? LOL
I’d love to try the Lemon Meringue, but the recipe would not come up for me–the Peanut Butter came up in it’s place. Help!
tall cake is so much better than short cake (in my opinion) hee hee
Wow, that looks yummy. You did a great job!!
I made this today for my husband’s birthday – it’s just as yummy as it looks! Thanks so much for sharing.
