Savory Spice Giveaway

When I was in Colorado I found the most fun and delightful shop called the Savory Spice Shop.

savoryspice1This little shop is filled with every spice imaginable.

savoryspice2I loved the spice blends. I enjoyed walking through the store smelling their special spice blends and then reading the recipes that use those spice blends.

We bought the Family Style Fajita Seasoning and made delicious fajitas!

Family Style Fajitas

Ingredients:
4 tbsp. Family Style Fajita Seasoning
1 cup beef broth or stock
1 lb of sliced flank steak
3 tbsp. olive oil
1/2 lime, juiced

Directions:
Mix Fajita seasoning with broth and set aside. In a pan over medium/high heat, brown sliced steak in the oil and strain. Working in the same pan, reduce heat to medium/low, pour broth mixture over steak and stir thoroughly. Cook for 5-6 minutes, stirring. Reduce heat to low, squeeze in the lime juice and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring. (We added in sliced bell peppers and onions)

Serving Suggestions:
With corn or flour tortillas or over rice.

Yields: 4 servings

I can't wait to try the Thai Green Chicken Curry, Jamaican Jerk Burgers, Smoky Hills Mac'n Cheese, Pearl Street Cedar Plank Salmon ....I could go on and on.

The Savory Spice Shop is giving one very lucky reader a 4 jar gift set (I am jealous!). Please leave a comment by Sunday, July 12th at midnight for a chance to win. Please US entries only (sorry).

Crafting Jewish Giveaway

I was asked to review the book Crafting Jewish: Fun holiday crafts and party ideas for the whole family.  I really didn't know what to expect since I am not Jewish. When it arrived I couldn't stop looking at it.

jewishbook

If I was Jewish I would be inspired with ideas to celebrate each and every Jewish holiday. It really piqued my curiosity about Jewish customs and I loved learning more about the Jewish celebrations.  The book is full of beautiful photos, wonderful crafts.

I was also tempted by the recipes from honey cake to easy hamantashen.  I found the tutorial on Challah braiding really interesting and I loved learning about the symbolism of Challah bread. On Shappat they serve two loaves of challah to remind them of the two portions of manna that fell from the sky when the Jews were wondering in the desert.  The  bread is braided to represent the unity of the the Jewish nation.

I gave the One Bowl Carrot cake a go and my family ate it up (even though I over-baked it)!

I think anyone would enjoy this book ---Jewish or not! (but especially if you are Jewish I would think it would become a cherished handbook for celebrating those special customs and traditions). I know there are loads of crafts and recipes I am looking forward to making!

I have one copy of this book to give away! Please leave a comment on this post by Sunday, July 12th at midnight for a chance to win.  Please only US entries this time.

DIY Fourth of July Snack Cups

I am thinking a stack of these sitting next to a bowl of snacks is great-----makes  nice portable containers for backyard guests.

fourthofjulysnackcupsPrint out the template and fold into a cone. It overlaps at the top about about two inches to no overlap at the point. You could easily use tape to fasten, but I used hot glue. My local printing store was running a special so I saved the file to a flash drive and had them print directly from the file. They did look much better than if I had printed them on my printer, plus the color copy paper is heavier with a nice sheen.
