Thank you so much for posting this! We realized that the store bought syrup is a seasonal item and the stores have quit carrying it. We have a similar maching and, living in California, love our snow cones almost year round - at least to Thanksgiving! Thanks again - you saved the day.

Great idea - thnanks for sharing! I'll try it this week in prep for our sno-cone stand. Here in New Hampshire we sometimes make them with maple syrup - a nice healthy alternative. It takes after a tradition called "sugar on snow." When the first batch of maple syrup is finished in the spring, we pour hot, thickened syrup on a pan of snow and it makes a toffee-like candy. We serve it with a doughnut and a dill pickle!

More healthy ideas - could probably make the syrup with honey, and add natural flavoring.

Oh - and have you tried adding a creamy flavor with some watered-down condensed milk? Could probably make that, too. Yum!

Wow! I was participating in a mission trip in which it was my responsibility to travel to 7 public parks and make sno cones for children participating in Bible clubs. I ran out of bought syrup and nearly panicked. After searching stores frantically I realized there must be a recipe. Wa - la ! I used the recipe and lots of children were happy! I've made 8 gallons in two days. Fun! Fun!
