Sew Shay Guest Giveaway

Shay writes ..................

My name is Shay Ankerich and I'm the owner of Sew Shay. I am a SAHM with four daughters who keep me happily busy. My husband and I are in the process of adopting our second daughter from China and we have named her ShayleeJoy. Sew Shay is named for her and we are using all the proceeds from the shop to help with our adoption fees and travel expenses.

My shop features cute items that are both fun and functional from bags to skirts to rainbow rolls. Most of my items have been inspired by my daughter EllaKate whom waits patiently for her little sister. Please stop by Sew Shay and take a peek.

I am giving away the GoGo bag and the Rainbow Roll shown below. All you have to do is stop by my shop and let me know what your favorite item is in the comments section of this post.

My Little Chickadee

chick1

I was totally inspired by WeeWonderful's bunny and made a little chickadee popping out of an egg. I used felt and haven't tried the pattern with fabric.

My Little Chickadee Template

Download the pattern, print and cut out the pieces.

chick2Embellish one yellow piece for the front of the chick. You may also like to embellish one of the 'egg shells'.  I embroidered the details. It would also be cute to use felt shapes.

chick3For the beak I sewed across the middle of the diamond, then folded and sewed across the top.

chick4Sew two wing pieces together for each wing.

chick5

Sew an egg shell piece to each of the yellow body pieces.

chick6

Pin the wings to the front of the chick.

chick7

Right sides together sew a yellow body piece to the front yellow body piece.

chick8Right sides together sew the third body piece to the side of each of the other yellow body pieces. Leave about a 3" opening on the back seam (no wing). At the top of the chick it helps to leave the needle in the fabric, raise the presser foot, adjust the fabric, put presser foot back down and then keep sewing the seam.  I used 1/4" seams throughout the project.

chick9Sew circle piece to the bottom making sure you catch layers. It is a bit tricky, it will fit --- don't get frustrated and don't worry if you get a gather! Stuff the chickadee and then slip-stitch the opening closed.

chick10These would be cute softies in an Easter basket! If you want a bunny to go along with your chickadee hop on over to WeeWonderfuls!

Yes, You Can Make it!

I want to start a weekly column here about things you can make! It could be anything from --how to make your own laundry soap, salad dressing and  lip gloss to paper. I would like to know what items you think would be interesting to know how to make.

You might like to know about a certain art and craft technique like paper mache, beading or printing.  It might be something to do with your blog or computers, like how to make a favicon (the image in the url bar at the top--like my flower). There also might be some fun things you would like to cook for your family. Have you tried pulling taffy? How about making a Baked Alaska, cream puffs or trying your hand at canning. You might want to know how you can make different sewn items or learn some sewing tricks.  You might like to know how to make things to save you money like fabric softener, household cleaners and of course gifts. Don't leave out things you would like to teach your child to do or make.

So give me a challenge and lets see if I can show you how to make it! If you don't mind please don't leave a comment, instead e-mail me!  Just click the envelope
Email me Please put "You can make it" as the subject.

Thanks so much for your help.  I think we can have a lot of fun with this!
