My son took these "Lottery Tickets" to school today. They were fun to make but I was wishing he only had 15 in his class instead of 23!
I printed the tickets on card-stock, cut them out and then covered them with clear laminate (contact paper).

I made a little heart stencil out of sticky backed shelf liner (this is just slightly sticky). Place it over the scratch off area.
Paint inside stencil with acrylic paint.
It takes about two coats. It worked better if I removed the stencil while the paint was slightly wet. If some of the paint comes off it can be touched up later. When I had problems with the words showing through I just went in with a small paint brush and gave the words another coat.
Trim edges and cut the tickets apart.
My son gave everyone a penny along with his Valentine to scratch off the message.
Before you roll your eyes and think these were way too much work-----please note that my son is in 6th grade. We have hit the end of the road for valentines! This was my last hurrah!
Thanks for taking the time to visit me today!

Those are so creatively, amazingly awesome! I’d like to be in your son’s class just to get one…no, wait, scratch that last part. Being a kid is hard work! Anyway, what a wonderful Valentine’s card. It’s sure to be a hit!
Those are too cool, Cindy!
We missed you on Saturday. Hope all is well.
WOW!!! I’m so impressed. I’ve got to file this away for when my kids are a bit older.

What a neat idea! I’ve never seen homemade scratch offs before.
I don’t think these are too much work. But then, I’m crazy and I overdo everything. Seriously, way cute. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t think they seem like to much work. I think those are very creative! I love them. It’s a great idea!

This is a fabulous idea and such a great change from the average valentine! Thank you for sharing!
you are definitely the coolest mom! what a great, creative way to go out with a bang. Good going!
Thank you for the whirly gig Valentine template. It’s just perfect for my 5th grade boy…not mushy or little kid. Love your site! You rock!
I think that is brilliant! I love it. I think YOU are a winner. hehe
I have been wondering how to make scratch offs. Thank you so much for the info! Great Blog
You have the best ideas! This is great…I’m thinking of all kinds of uses for this method…
That was a brilliant idea! Too bad it’s too late for my granddaughter as she has hers all written out. Sometimes, my daughter and I do something creative but this year we didn’t. Thanks for posting and for the pattern. Linda

Wow!! You are amazing! I bet he had the coolest valentines! This tops any valentines ever!
Such a cute idea, love it!
VERY cool. If only I’d see this before the night before the party. My son is in 5th grade and he said to me today, “Mom, make me something really cool in Illustrator. Nothing babyish. I need 32.”
Oh brother.
I teach middle school and my students would LOVE these. Especially if I put in “real” prizes like, 5 minutes of extra recess, or one free homework assignment. I have got to remember this idea for next year! Thanks.
Those are amazing!! I’m sure his friends will definitely think they are a winner too. Just came across your site the other day and I love it! Made the lollipop valentines with my kids.
Cindy – It is so very wonderful the positive difference you make in our childrens lives. Not only are you the coolest, you also create the coolest things! You do certainly ROCK! I am so happy to be your husband. I am not sure that my valentine for you can measure up! It is great you have given me some ideas….XOXO Geo
Oh my gosh! Way to go out with a serious bang!!! love ‘em!
Wow – these are amazing! You are so incredibly talented!
This is a fabulous idea! I’m not sure as a mother of 3 whether or not I would attempt this but I looOOoove all the other great crafts on your site. I visit often!
How fun! That’d be a cute coupon book idea too. As always, fantastic idea!
They are sweet, my daughter will be in 6th grade next year, going to have to keep them in mind.

These are so cool! My kids would love them. I might make them each one for Saturday. I think they might win a Sunday afternoon movie!
Love it as a valentine idea. I have done similar for door prizes at Baby showers and wedding showers. Love all your ideas! Wish I would have time to do these before tomorrow!
Great valentines! As for the amount of work, it’s also simple enough to have the older kids help in making their own valentines. Bookmarking for next year!
Lea, You are so right and I do think kids should help make them! That is the fun part! In this case we were so iffy about valentines—-him making them would have been too much for him to take at school! hehe
I think they are worth the work! Very cute!
HELP!!! I am paint-challenged!
Where can I find acrylic paint? JoAnn’s fabric and craft store perhaps?
This is the best idea! Thank you soo much for sharing.
I THINK THEY ARE BEST! Kudos mom!

the craft section at Wal-mart even has this acrylic paint. It comes in small bottles about 3″ high. Good Luck!
Such a cute idea!

These are very cute. If you used matching ink under the paint, show thru would be less of a problem, especially if you use lighter colors…
it’s a good idéa
Pretty smart idea. I will try it.
Hello! I found your website recently and I have been on it for days!! I have found so many awesome projects that I am so eager to try (if only I knew how to sew!) I think these are the cutest Valentines! However, while reading the directions I thought of a different way to use them. I think they would make perfect “reward” cards for kids. For doing something good they would get a card and scratch off to reveal their reward. Maybe a food treat, movie night, or they could be used in the classroom for a number of rewards. I cannot wait to use these!!!
Thank you for everything you do!!

If you print the text in the same color as the paint, you won’t need as many layers to hide it. Terrific idea. I’m going to use it to promote a new program at my church.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I work with 6th graders. We just finished working with Thanksgiving shopping using sales flyers and decimals. We did a poker chip random drawing for free grocery cards or free food items.
The next plan was for percentages in February. Scratch off discount cards would fit in GREAT with this project. The students will get a big kick out of this. Now to design a card for it.
