Just in time for Valentine's Day, a handmade heart to decorate your home. The folks at Swirly Designs are sad about the recent loss of magazines like Home Companion and Domino. They are wondering where you will go for gift ideas and design inspiration.
From Swirly Designs:
Do you love celebrating the holidays?
Here at Swirly Designs we loooove the holidays. We create handmade polymer clay ornaments. You can learn more about our process here. We’ve been creating ornaments since 2000, starting with just Christmas designs but since have expanded to all the holidays including Valentine’s Day! Each ornament is handmade and no two are exactly alike. They’re great for gifts, for your holiday tree, to dress up a package or just to hang on your wall!

These days we have been wondering where people go for their holiday inspiration? Where do you go to buy handmade gifts? And now, with the ending of such great publications like Country Home and Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, we would really love to know which magazines you will turn to now, to get your holiday fix.
For a chance to win one of our ornaments please leave us a comment by Monday midnight EST, Feb 9, telling us which magazines you read to get ideas for your holiday gifts and design inspiration from, and we will randomly choose one winner and send them one of our handmade limited edition Valentine Cupid ornament from our new 2009 collection (see first photo).
From Cindy:
There was an overwhelming response to having weekly "guest" giveaways. Over 95 percent of you said that it would be something you would enjoy. If you have a business you would like to promote or something you make and would like to host a give away please send me an email (again if you already did) and I will send you more information. Thanks!

Family Fun magazine has been a great resource for me. Thanks!
I get most of my ideas from FamilyFun. I love all the crafts that are directed towards kids.
Family Fun and Parents Magazine usually have some fun holiday crafts.
Cindy,
Are we supposed to respond here? Or at their website?
If here:
I too check out Family Fun. ReadyMade mag is a source of DIY inspiration also.
Online I like to check out craftzine.com for ideas.
I reallt enjoy looking at Family Fun magazine as well. They have inexpensive ideas that are easy and not very time consuming.
I like to check out Victoria and Martha Stewart Living for inspiration.
I love looking through Martha’s Magazine and website! I also get great ideas out of Cookie Magazine!
I love Martha Stewart – lots of great ideas – I will miss ME and Domino though.
I like Family Fun and Martha Stewart. I also check out Quilts & more. Thanks for this great giveaway!
Papercrafts is awesome, I love the cards they display!
Martha Stewart! I look at Family Fun sometimes too & Real Simple.
I like Pack-o-fun. I also look online at lots of blogs and website
Another big fan of Martha Stewart, particularly the Kids magazine. Also love Interweave Knits.
I check out Pack-O-Fun, Cardmaker and Papercraft. I look on-line for many ideas too. Planned Parenthood has a huge book sale in Des Moines, Iowa and I buy a lot of older magazines and books there.
I now go to, Family Fun (like many others) as well as Real Simple, Hallmark, and sometimes Martha Stewart.
Hello! I adore handmade. Magazines that I like for ideas are Country Sampler, Paper
Crafts, and Romantic Homes and Somerset! Please enter my name in your delightful giveaway drawing. Many thanks, Cindi
Yes Family Fun is a good place and Martha Stewart is too. But to be honest I think I go to blogs more often then magazines to look for craft ideas. I think they should start a blog and show their crafts.
Hugs,
Joanne
I was enjoying Heart and Home which is no longer being published as well. Last month I subscribed to Sandra Lee’s new magazine, Semi-Homemade.
Family Fun Magazine
I like Martha also!
I love Family Fun, Family Circle, and BHG.
We also get Family Fun and Parents, though as far as being crafty goes, Family Fun is definitely the magazine to turn to for us.
I will miss Domino! I subscribed to Martha Stewart for as long as it’s been publishing but due to the economy I recently had to cancel. I also did subscribe to Country Living, Family Circle, Womans Day, Good Housekeeping & Better Homes & Gardens, Birds & Blooms. I save all my mags & yes it takes a lot of space but now I’m so glad. I’ll just have to be satisfied and settle for looking at my past issues. I have also gone to Zino the online version for my mags. I’m not quite used to this form but is less expensive and not near the storage issue. I also get most of my new ideas from the internet to economize!
I am a Papercrafts gal for inspiration. I also try to find the special holiday magazines…something like Holiday Crafts … when they come out. Sometimes I can find inspiration from Martha Stewart also.
My favorite magazines for inspiration are Martha Stewart, Southern Living, Better Homes and Gardens and Family Fun.
That is so sweet. What a lovely heart. I just love it. I heart Skip to My Lou!!!
I read papercrafts magazine and Martha Stewart Living. I also get the cards magazine and now the Handmade one and they are excellent. Linda Gerig
I forgot to say what magazines I read for inspiration…Real Simple, Sandra Lee’s new magazine, Better Homes & Gardens are a few.
I read Family Circles. I have kids so I am always looking for fun things to do together.
Oooh, I need to start getting Family Fun, I think my girls are old enough for that now. I just got Living Crafts for Christmas, I don’t think anyone’s mentioned them yet.
I love paper crafting and use Paper Crafts, Card Crafting, and many Internet sites such as Cannon, Skip to my Lou, Fred She Said, Activity Village and many more.
Because I do a lot of crafting for kids for Children’s Church, I also use Danielle’s Place, DLTK, Kaboose, About, Suite101, Craft Ideas and visit many blogs. Ivisit Grandma George, Delightful Doodles, D.A.I.S.I.E.S., etc for ideas too.
Love your site. Thanks for sharing.
Home Companion was my FAVORITE. It was not only a inspiration for me, but also, a quiet getaway. With 4 kids, I don’t get many of those but Home Companion always took me there.
Martha is the go-to place for me! I also look on the internet A LOT! Thanks for the contest! Great ornaments…it would look great hanging in the middle of the Valentine wreath I made!
Having small kids, I always turn to Family Fun and Parents magazines! I’m becoming a big fan of also Google through the internet. Love the ornaments!
We receive Family Fun every month and my 6 year old son likes that he can do most of the crafts without much grown up help. I love Living Crafts and always find several things I want to make.
I love the look at the Family Fun Magasine. I have a little girl in kindergarten and I am the room mother. I also look at Marthat Stewart Living. for ideas. I love your webdite. I added to my blog list because of all of your great ideas. I was reciently chosen parent of the year at my daughters school and I have to give some credit to you. Thanks
Martha Stewart, kids mags (Parents, Wondertime, Family Fun)…but mostly the internet. All you creative folks are so inspiring!
I usually get my ideas from the Internet now, but I like Family Fun.
I love magazines like Womans Day, Family Circle and Family Fun and I get alot of inspiration from online resources and blogs.
I love family fun magazine

I’m a fan of martha!
I rely on Family Fun, Parenting, and Wonder Time for my ideas.
Oh I will miss ME. I will be getting most of my ideas from Martha and Papercrafts.
Thanks
debbie
I love Family Circle, Family Fun and All You magazines for creative ideas. I also go to Creating Keepsakes online. I use the internet a lot to get new ideas.
Honestly, I rarely look at magazines. I do occassionally look at things like Southern Living, Family Fun, and Parenting–but more for my class at school than home. Where I go to get ideas for homemade gifts for family is more likely browsing through Etsy.com or checking in with the many blogs I follow–all of us hand crafters–so I know there will be many great ideas there as well. One Pretty Thing is another place I find ideas. I know this isn’t what you wanted, but you asked!
I read Family Fun, Parents, Mothering and websites and blogs.
I like Family Fun, Martha Stewart, and a variety of creative blogs.
I really like Martha’s magazine…it is full of such wonderful ideas!
Martha and Real Simple. I look at the Internet more than magazines.
