Great first school day activity for 1st graders! Have the children sit in a circle on the floor and read a story to each other! Pass the book around the circle and let each child read one page. The rules are simple: 1. A child on either side of the current reader can help if the reader gets “stuck” or the reader can simply decide to “describe” what they see happening in the story based on the picture in the book. 2. Every child gets a turn even if the book has to be read more than once.
This simple exercise allows a teacher to observe each child as a solo performer and as part of a partnership or team and serves as an excellent first day activity.
My favorite book for this activity is “Read to me Bo” by Robert Spence, available on Amazon.
Have fun!!!

GREAT ideas!
I love giving gifts like these.
I need to do something like this for my boyfriend. He leave on a golf trip next Friday and I need to pack his bag with notes, etc.

As for your water bottle... Hmmm... How about.. "Sipping on success"

Or

"Water for the mind"

It could also be, " (Teachers name)'s Healthy Drink"

I love the idea. Tag with the colors, which could be used on another colored gift too, I guess.
Tickled pink to have such a great teacher.
I'd be blue without you as my teacher.
Others are green with envy that you're my teacher or such a great teacher.

I bought clear plastic re-usable tumblers from Starbucks (they look like their cold drink cups). I made inserts to show through the cups that say "We think you are a great TEA-cher!" along with a quart sized tea bag for iced tea (Lipton), and the paper insert has a recipe for making Iced Tea. I also included a hand made coaster. the web-link has a picture from Flickr!

I cant claim the idea is mine but we did a cool gift at Valentines this year. I got the idea from a website but I cant recall which site it was. In any case, we took a clear bottle of hand sanitizer and removed all of the stickers. I did have to spray some goo-gone on it to remove the sticky residue.

After that was done, I had the kids decorate them with ribbon and foam heart stickers. The teachers seemed to really like it. You could adapt it for any occasion though.

I'm sure it is too late now, but you could make really cute lightly-padded velcro enclosed cozies out of cute fabric for them...
